RealClearPolitics - White House Tactics Go Too Far »
Posted By FairNBalanced 2 months ago in Political NewsThe White House has declared war on Fox News. White House communications director Anita Dunn said that Fox is "opinion journalism masquerading as news." Patting rival networks on the head for their authenticity (read: docility), senior adviser David Axelrod declared Fox "not really a news station." And Chief of Staff Emanuel told (warned?) the other networks not to "be led (by) and following Fox."

The signal to corporations is equally clear: You might have dealings with a federal behemoth that not only disburses more than $3 trillion every year but is extending its reach ever deeper into private industry -- finance, autos, soon health care and energy. Think twice before you run an ad on Fox.

At first, there was little reaction from other media. Then on Thursday, the administration tried to make them complicit in an actual boycott of Fox. The Treasury Department made available Ken Feinberg, the executive pay czar, for interviews with the White House "pool" news organizations -- except Fox. The other networks admirably refused, saying they would not interview Feinberg unless Fox was permitted to as well. The administration backed down. -

Fox and its viewers (numbering more than CNN's and MSNBC's combined) need no defense. Defend Fox compared to whom? To CNN -- which recently unleashed its fact-checkers on a "Saturday Night Live" skit mildly critical of President Obama, but did no checking of a grotesquely racist remark CNN falsely attributed to Rush Limbaugh?

This whole song and dance between cheney, fox, and the white house is just a big pony show put on to confuse the sheep into taking sides.

Fox is controlled opposition. They'll rock the boat to divide us, but will never scratch beneath the surface.
What we fail to see is that fox news, and the rest of the networks, has joined up with the current administration on ignoring every single major re-election issue! They are towing the party line on continuing the war on terrorism, continuing warrantless spying, continuing torture, continuing trial without a jury or tribunals, and everything else liberals (rightfully) complained about for 8 years. The only issue that fox has strayed from the official line is on health care, which is another wedge issue.
Anything to keep the house of cards together.
Shoot your television.

The article says of the White House: "It wants to delegitimize any significant dissent."
Reply
This is a pretty serious allegation. Would any right-leaning thinkers/pundits care to actually demonstrate some legitimate dissent? You can't delegitimize something that's illegitimate to begin with, and much of Fox's "dissent" comes by way of twisting the White House position into something completely different from reality, and then dissenting against that policy (that isn't held by the White House at all)!
Come on, Fox. Put your money where your mouth is. Take back your lawsuit that gave you the right to lie on the air. Stop airing political commentary and opinion as facts. Present only the facts and legitimate interpretations thereof, and see if the White House still tries to shut you down.
(Clarification: Legitimate interpretations are those that can be made when approaching facts without the pre-conceived plan to twist them into something the admin is doing wrong. "Death panels" out of end-of-life consultations with patients is a prime example of an ILLegitimate interpretation. No reasonable person would reach that conclusion objectively by reading the Bill.) -

RULE 3: "Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy." Look for ways to increase insecurity, anxiety and uncertainty. (This happens all the time. Watch how many organizations under attack are blind-sided by seemingly irrelevant arguments that they are then forced to address.)
RULE 5: "Ridicule is man's most potent weapon." There is no defense. It's irrational. It's infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions. (Pretty crude, rude and mean, huh? They want to create anger and fear.)
RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it." Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. (This is cruel, but very effective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.)
Sad that these are our American brothers and sisters who care more for making political points than observing the Bill of Rights. -

Last night Maddow (MSNBC opinion program)said FOX differs from REAL news because at least ONE of their programs helps to promote and organize protesters of the Obama agenda. Does Rachel forget that community organizing is about the only job the Pretender in the Oval Office held, except for a short stint of voting "present" in our Illinois Congress? Maddow needs to be more circumspect when attempting to malign FOX. She could be the next one getting the strong-arming thug treatment from the WH if she continues to put down community activism.

Real news organizations don't organize protests. It's a conflict of interest.

As for Obama's resume, he lectured in Constitutional Law at one of the top law schools in the U.S. He sat on the board of directors of a large philanthropic organization run by the Annenberg Foundation. And he had as much governing experience as Abraham Lincoln before Lincoln was elected.
Those both require far more knowledge and ability than the jobs Bush had before he was elected--and Obama performed well, while Bush drove the companies he led into the ground.
You sound like you're not over the loss of the last election. That was almost a year ago. Get over it. -
