What Liberal Media? Study Shows Manipulation of Press to Serve Right-Wing Agenda »
Posted By tehranchik 1 month ago in Political OpinionAccording to the study, 647 ACORN-related news stories published in 15 news outlets between 2007 and 2008, many of which parroted a plethora of unverified allegations from conservative parties.
"The academic study found that news-media coverage of the voter-fraud charges failed to distinguish between problems with registering voters and actual voting irregularities, which are rare," wrote Chronicle of Philanthropy writer Suzanne Perry, who recently covered "Manipulating the Public Agenda."
"It also found that 80 percent of the stories failed to mention that Acorn was reporting registration irregularities to the authorities; 85 percent failed to report that the group was acting to stop incidents of registration problems; and 96 percent failed to provide deeper context, especially about efforts by Republican Party officials to use voter-fraud allegations to dampen voting by low-income and minority Americans."

the mere fact that this headline ties the agenda of being that of "right wing[ers]" is proof that the article, at least, is left biased.

that will go over most of your heads. but i'll say it, anyway.
drop the two-party duality. the agenda is status-quo. it has nothing to do with right or left. this author is a product of too much duality in the first place. if you wait too long, you won't be able to escape, either.-

--Btw, I notice you don't dispute anything in the article (and chose to dodge, as per usual). Why the spike in the number of hit pieces about ACORN while the best you people could come up with is entrapping a few dimwits on camera on charges that have nothing to do with voter fraud whatsoever? -

Actually all the article is doing is showing the bias and the underhanded, uneven attacks from the right. It is reporting the problem of voter registration fraud in a more balanced, complete fashion, thus exposing the hypocrisy of the right.

I've said this for years. The idea of a "liberal media" is nothing but propaganda used to discredit anything but what conforms to the Fox approved agenda.

Forget about ACORN. Look at a comparison between the coverage (negative "witch hunt" coverage) that Bill Clinton got vs George W. Bush.
Clinton was hounded from before his election and NEVER left to take a breath until after he was finally impeached (amid his highest approval ratings, btw). Everything from Whitewater to Jennifer Flowers to Monica Lewinsky to the push for impeachment...it was non-stop coverage of how terrible Bill Clinton was.
George W. Bush, while criticized late in his second term, was largely given a wide berth. He was allowed to ignore terror warnings that allowed us to be attacked on 9/11, wage a manufactured war against a sovereign nation while ignoring those who attacked us, re-implement the use of torture, spy on American citizens, suspend habeus corpus, ignore the findings of the 9/11 Commission, illegally expand the power of the Executive while illegally limiting the power of the Legislature, insert unprecedented "signing statements" to almost every bill (law) that crossed his desk giving himself immunity to the terms, sanctioned a private mercenary force to do much of the "dirty work" in Iraq so the "official death toll" was kept deceptively low, etc..........all of this went on while the media largely turned a blind eye. Not until the last couple of years of his final term did it become commonplace to report on these things happening.
The argument can't be made that the media is "liberal" when you look at the actual content and compare which side is targeted for negative stories and which side is given the free pass more often than not.
The media should be neither liberal nor conservative, but fair and truthful. Unfortunately, the American media hasn't been that in a VERY long time (if ever, really). It certainly isn't now.-

I go back to Clinton and Reagen. Identical stories. The president and congress could npot agree to a budget and the government was shut down.
Reply
Headlines and leads in the MSM
Reagen today shut down the government by not signing the bill that congress gave him.
Congress today shut down the government today when they refused to give President clinton a bill he would sign.
Of course the libs do not see anything biased in those headlines and news leads.
GET YOUR HWEAD OUT OF THE SAND!!!!!

Its like the radical judges ploy that the repugs use too.... when the Roberts Supreme court has been more radical than any.... overturning more precedent than any previous court.... even had 4 judges last year vote to throw out 800 years of accepted western law - habeas corpus!

Awesome! A story about media bias, press manipulation, the election of 2008 and ACORN and not one mention about the negativity shed on ACORN by the PUMA's.

Here's the PDF to the actual story highlighted by this submission:

Check it closely for any reference to the problems that certain PUMA members accused ACORN of creating in the Democratic primaries.
Oh yeah, and it should be noted that Peter Dreier, the co-author of this questionable study about media bias and manipulation, worked as a consultant to ACORN. Don't take that as a reason for him to manipulate, though, unless you don't like thinking for yourself.
