The Army has allowed a Sikh Army doctor to keep his turban and beard after an outcry by a Sikh advocacy group.

But if he is transferred to another command or deploys, he’ll have to apply for another waiver from the Army’s uniform policy, said Army spokesman Lt. Col. Chris Garver.

“This accommodation does not constitute a blanket accommodation for any other individual; as each request must be evaluated based on its own unique facts and individual circumstances,” Army Maj. Gen. Gina S. Farrisee wrote in a letter to the soldier. Farrissee is the acting deputy chief of staff.

The Sikh religion requires men to wear turbans and beards and keep their hair unshorn. To Sikhs, cutting one’s hair is as serious an offense as adultery.

I dont quite understand the reasoning for the Army to ALLOW this individual to keep his turban let alone his beard. For years the military set rules that they expect everyone to follow. Clean cut and clean shaven. I understand its against his religion but it also against our religion to Kill. So lets set religion aside. WE are in a war w/ Aghan and Iraq and he want to keep his turban and his beard the only thing that would separate him from the enemy would be his Uniform or maybe.

What ever what with rules are rules.

So obviously you will now apply the same logic and take measures to ensure that the US military doesn't kill anybody? Not even twice.

I dont like the fact that we are in a war. My Brother has been with the marines for Over 17 yrs and I worry about him. This Guy choose to join the military and he should be obligated to follow the rules in the military.
