The economy is shaping up like a road getting ready to be pressed by a steamroller. Now that we have seen major corporations go to the brink of bankruptcy and an unparalleled printing of dollars to prop up our credit ridden economy. What will it take to keep America as a economic superpower on the world stage? What happens to the people that have for so long gotten used to a extremely comfortable standard of living by most other country standards if the dollar self-destructs?

Well, if people would just realize that there is power in numbers. They could bring about the changes needed.

But most are to busy worrying about getting their piece of the pie to help their neighbor.
That is what the wealthy count on. The greed for the liitle bit we work for overpowering the love of our fellow man.
It will get much worse. -

Agreed, but that there are people rich enough to buy land equivalent of one of the smallest countries while there are children starving to death is, in my opinion too much difference. We, as species, should work to ensure that everyone have at least something to eat, where to live, and as best health as possible.

Sure, but that is no excuse for allowing an entrenched, super-rich oligarchy to abuse other Americans.

Only 30 years ago (before Reagan started the present systematic transfer of wealth and income to the super-rich), executive pay was about 40 times worker pay and "financial oligarchies" were largely prevented from speculative abuse. In the meantime Reagan's change of path has brough executive pay to 300-400 times worker pay and corrupt financial oligarchs have been rewarded with trillions of dollars from less well off Americans to keep their scams going. This is not new. Since Reagan started us on this destructive path (and every president since including the present one has kept us there), we have had repeated crashes and scams where government bled the general population to payoff the scams: junk-bond scams, 1987 market crash, Savings and Loan scam, dot-com scam, derivatives scam, .....
Only 35-40 years ago, our democracy was healthier, our families were stronger, we educated outselves better, we hadn't completely mutated into a crazy military empire, etc.
Time to stop using excuses for corruption of the type you tried to propagate and restore some moral integrity to our country and government. A good place to start will be doing exactly as Teddy Roosevelt had to do a century ago when the oligarchs got too corrupt and abusive - break up their power fiefdoms, especcially of our corrupt financial oligarchs.
We should keep in mind that some of our founding fathers wanted a 100% inheritance tax. They were attuned to the destruction and perversion caused by entrenched (aristocratic) oligarchies and did all they coulde to prevent them from ever arising in America. Perhaps the real "conservatives" will join other Americans in returning to that attitude.

I just wonder if ya know where competition came from ??
It seems to me it is from pride. The original sin of satan. Who thought he could compete with God.
Pride in having more than your fellow brothers and sisters is a sign of not having one's heart in the right place.
Having more than your brothers and sisters is not necessarily wrong, but delighting in their misery while you live in luxury is certainly wrong.
Gazing at one with not enough and disdaining them as not worthy is really bringing judgement upon yourself.
Remember that this life is relatively short and eternity is forever. I prefer my riches in the Kingdom of God.
I have no problem with sharing, and helping others to have what they need.
