This is a red herring. Energy producers know that cost per kilowatt-hour is lowest using the current system, to the tune of a 25-50% gap. Furthermore, kilowatts of energy produced per unit of space is far better with the current system than it is with solar or wind, and if far, far more reliable (sun goes down, wind stops).

The next step from oil is coal gassification and then nuclear. To do anything else will hurt the U.S. economy.-

Forget oil. It is very expensive and dirty. Likewise coal. Even dirtier. Small, efficient nuclear power plants are an excellent idea until practical fusion power comes online. Err. Not until someone figures out what to do with the nuclear waste. Isaac Asimov came up with the best idea I have ever heard back in the 1960s.

Find a canyon out in the desert. Way out there. Build a railroad line out there. Build a small nuclear power plant. Run trainloads of nuclear waste out there. Mix sand( there is a whole desert full of sand out there) and waste together and run them through the reactor in a safe ratio. Take the solidified sandstone blocks and stack them up in the end of the canyon. Sandstone takes millions of years to erode. By then the radioactive waste will have decomposed harmlessly.

I just saw my first Tesla Sports car recently. Very cool. As an electric car, I was wondering if it would make any sound when it started and it does. I'm not sure if its deliberate to let the driver know that the car is on or if its just the hum of the motor, but it has amazing off the jump pick up.
