Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to Include a Government-Run Insurance Option in Senate Bill »
Posted By Newperson 1 month ago in Political NewsSenate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., is including a new government-run health insurance program, the so-called public option, in the health care bill he will bring to the Senate floor.
Such a significant breakthrough greatly increases the chance that the public option, once considered dead in the Senate, will be part of the final health care bill.
Reid made the announcement at a news conference this afternoon, although he is still days away from releasing the actual language of the legislation he'll bring to the Senate floor.

I'm looking ahead to the moment it sinks in to all young healthy Americans that their Government is going to "force" them to buy health insurance whether they want it or not.

I think that's the moment they might say "wait a minute". Is this the change I really want?-

Good-bye Mr Reid. You have just committed political suicide. This is the only reason that he is going ahead with this. He knows that he will never again be elected to public office. There really must be something good in it for him that Pelosi and her cronies have promised him for falling on this sword. I guess a lobbying job for some casinos in Vegas for $500k per year and an expense account would be a step up from that lousy pay of public office. What a jerk.

It's called insurance which you take out when you are young and healthy against the time when you are not.
Does your comment mean that you have no property or accident insurance and you don't believe in insuring yourself against any eventuality?-

What happened to "personal choice"? If a young healthy kid of 22 decides he doesn't want to burden himself with health insurance, and instead takes the money and invests it in muni bonds, what business is it of yours? If he get's cancer at age 35 and his portfolio got robbed by a Democratic Administration, then it is his choice, not yours.

Does anyone wonder why actuaries are some of the highest paid professionals? It is because they can use math to calculate almost to the penny, how much money a person will need, spend, and/or save, based upon a few bits of data, and a very kick ass computer program.
So why can't the general public use what God has endowed them with, to make up their own minds as to what they want, or what they need? Too many times lately, we have heard of the fringe stories of a family that lost everything, due to an illness. Well guess what, that is called life. If you don't want to play, then check out. This society would do very well to understand that personal property is not guaranteed. Therefore, if you have to take all you have to stay alive for a few more years, it is your choice, the keyword being choice.
Life, for all of it's wonders, has an end to it. And it doesn't mean every day of everyones' lives are going to be perfect. People get sick, people die, get used to it. To force everyone to pay for everyone else is wrong, as stated in the constituiton. It takes away personal freedoms that are guaranteed. If the size of socialized healthcare was small, it might not matter much. But, the sad fact is that as soon as you force this down the throats of America, and have the government involved in any part of it's administration, you will see the cost quadruple in 10 years, guaranteed. That means 3 trillion more than what they expect it to cost. That is roughly 40,000 dollars per family of 4 more than they are paying now over a 10 year period. ON TOP OF WHAT IT ALREADY COSTS. ABOVE AND BEYOND the 1 trillion forecasted. Since when has any government estimate been accurate? Especially one of this magnitude with these types of variables.

Save money how???? The government notoriously under pays the health care providers. In some states the Medicaid payments are at 15% of the cost. So the providers will have to makeup that much more from the other patients.

Take off your rose colored glasses and look at the reality of Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans, and Indian health care agencies. They suck big time. They under pay other providers and deny more than the insurance companies do. Only Aetna comes close. So all of the rants about the insurance companies you ignore the fact that your great Federal and state Governments are so much worse.
Why do you want to put everybody an that bad system. Next week I go on Medicare and they still have not given me my card. Government bureaucracies suck big time.

I was a life long Democrat until now. The President said he would not raise taxes on the middle class what a lie! My wife and I make 34,000 a year gross. Does that make us rich? yet because my wife's employer gives us great healthcare coverage under this bill we will have to pay an ADDITIONAL $4,000 a year in taxes. Thank you Mr. President for ruining our lives.

sorry to hear that the POTUS can not understand that those that do not have health care coverage either Can not afford it, do not want it, or want to pay cash when the go. he seems to think that if you charge everyone for not having Health care you will save money.
Reply
Lets see here - doesn't have the money for health care so fine them if they do not get it --
dosent want it but forces them to spend the money on it ---
Wants to pay cash for the doctor visits-forces them to pay more then what they would paying cash
WHERE is the savings ????

It continues to amaze me how the dimocrats continue to use Medicare as an example of an effecient well run government program when they sing the praises of the government run public option in the Obama Health sCare Scheme. Then out of the other side of their mouth they say they will pay for 600 billion of the public option by cutting the fraud theivery and mismanagement out of Medicare. Which one is it ?? Well ran govt. program or 600 billion dollar fraudulent disaster ?? Hypocrite much dimocrats ????
