Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., is including a new government-run health insurance program, the so-called public option, in the health care bill he will bring to the Senate floor.
Such a significant breakthrough greatly increases the chance that the public option, once considered dead in the Senate, will be part of the final health care bill.

Reid made the announcement at a news conference this afternoon, although he is still days away from releasing the actual language of the legislation he'll bring to the Senate floor.

Well, it's a start, but we'll have to see if it's a watered down version or the real deal.

I'm looking ahead to the moment it sinks in to all young healthy Americans that their Government is going to "force" them to buy health insurance whether they want it or not.

I think that's the moment they might say "wait a minute". Is this the change I really want?

Good-bye Mr Reid. You have just committed political suicide. This is the only reason that he is going ahead with this. He knows that he will never again be elected to public office. There really must be something good in it for him that Pelosi and her cronies have promised him for falling on this sword. I guess a lobbying job for some casinos in Vegas for $500k per year and an expense account would be a step up from that lousy pay of public office. What a jerk.

With John Ensign being the other Senator from Nevada, looks like there will be a couple of seats open in the near future.

It's called insurance which you take out when you are young and healthy against the time when you are not.
Does your comment mean that you have no property or accident insurance and you don't believe in insuring yourself against any eventuality?

It will save money since the uninsured will no longer use emergency rooms for primary treatment. It will also get people to have checkups before costly medical catastrophes occur

I was a life long Democrat until now. The President said he would not raise taxes on the middle class what a lie! My wife and I make 34,000 a year gross. Does that make us rich? yet because my wife's employer gives us great healthcare coverage under this bill we will have to pay an ADDITIONAL $4,000 a year in taxes. Thank you Mr. President for ruining our lives.

It continues to amaze me how the dimocrats continue to use Medicare as an example of an effecient well run government program when they sing the praises of the government run public option in the Obama Health sCare Scheme. Then out of the other side of their mouth they say they will pay for 600 billion of the public option by cutting the fraud theivery and mismanagement out of Medicare. Which one is it ?? Well ran govt. program or 600 billion dollar fraudulent disaster ?? Hypocrite much dimocrats ????
