The Obama administration has clung for so long to the Bush administration’s expansive claims of national security and executive power that it is in danger of turning President George W. Bush’s cover-up of abuses committed in the name of fighting terrorism into President Barack Obama’s cover-up.

while i welcome the nytimes position here, it's difficult to forget how they argued the other side for the past eight years.

did they have a change of heart?

no. one must have a heart to begin with.

Well, finally. Some mainstream media validation of what many of us NOT blinded by partisan fealty have been saying for a while now, and by none other than the Grey Lady herself.

Now let's see the lefty vs. righty spinwars begin, as they each miss, per usual, the true underlying issue... LIBERTY.

There are some corrupt people in our intelligence services and the wealthy criminals of the world needed a way to legalize domestic eavesdropping. It's a large scale system of criminal coercion they don't want to give up. Bush provided a means to that end. The eavesdropping is used in an organized crime network that has replaced the mafia on a much larger international scale. The information is used to harass and force people into committing even more crimes. (similar to the use of selective judicial systems)

They sell it to the average person as policing society, but it's being used by the worst criminals.

      FTA:

      >>>In a similar vein, Mr. Obama did a flip-flop last May and decided to resist orders by two federal courts to release photographs of soldiers abusing prisoners in Afghanistan and Iraq. Last week, just in time to avoid possible Supreme Court review of the matter, Congress created an exception to the Freedom of Information Act that gave Secretary of Defense Robert Gates authority to withhold the photos.<<<

And that would be the present, DEMOCRATIC congress, wouldn't it... placed into majority rule by the voting public's overwhelming repudiation of Bush/Cheney atrocities and abuse. Does anything make it clearer that the American people do not have a government that responds to their wishes?
