The Lieberman Option - Could one of the left's least favorite senators kill health care reform? »
Posted By Tumultuous 4 weeks, 1 day ago in Political OpinionFrom now until health care reform either passes or dies, there will be a series of daily eruptions that will rival the ones from August for passion, confusion, and mischief. Today's installment was Sen. Joe Lieberman's announcement that he will filibuster the health care reform bill in the Senate because it includes a government-run insurance program, even though it's designed to allow states to "opt out." Because Democrats need 60 votes to end a filibuster, they need all 58 Democrats, plus independents Lieberman and Bernie Sanders of Vermont, to fight a unified Republican side. Without Joe, in other words, health care reform dies.

I can't stand the man. He's a freaking LIAR when he says the public option will cost too much. People will be paying for their own damned coverage, not taxpayers! And any money paid in for those who can pay nothing, is already being paid NOW with medicaid, GD It!

If you needed any more evidence that Libermann is an "israel-firster" rather than an American, this might be the ultimate example. These people care ONLY about "protecting" zionist crimes against humanity in Palestine AND protecting zionist oligarchies in America. Average Americans who are not part of "god's chosen people" are unimportant.

Joe Lieberman's Dangerous Alliance with Christian Zionists [VIDEO]
http://www.alternet.org/blogs/video/43858/
At a recent Manhattan fundraiser featuring high-profile Bush supporter and lifelong bachelor Ed Koch, Joe Lieberman sought to score easy points, and a few quick bucks, by tarring Democratic candidate Ned Lamont with the anti-Israel brush. Lamont, he said, was "surrounded by people who are either naïve or are isolationists or, frankly, some more explicitly against Israel."
Using his second favorite tactic -- race baiting -- Lieberman pointed to black congresswoman Maxine Waters, who abstained from voting for the Hezbollah condemnation, and Al Sharpton, who seldom speaks of Israel, but who has had tension with Jews in the past.....
...Responding to Lieberman's gambit, Hillary Clinton challenger Jonathan Tasini wrote: "the truth is, Joe, you're no friend of Israel." Lieberman's "Israel at any cost" position he likened to: "the friend of an alcoholic who would slap him on the back and yuck it up at a bar, offering to pay the alcoholic's tab -- forget the consequences, as long as it makes him feel good."
...Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, founder of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ), is co-founder, with Joe Lieberman, of the D.C.-based public policy outfit, Center for Jewish and Christian Values (CJCV), which seeks to "build a more moral society in America." The CJCV is the "values" wing of the IFCJ, whose advisory board included William Bennett, Gary Bauer, and Ralph Reed, which professed to foster a Jewish-Christian dialogue and to mutually support the state of Israel. Some of the IFCJ's crusades smack of lending Jewish support to traditional right wing Christian bogeymen, like: "[T]he Radical Left is responsible for denying children the right to religious expression in public schools." -

Eckstein, along with Lieberman, was in the vanguard of the cynical marriage of money and power between Israel's radical right wing and America's Christian Zionists, a marriage that has thus far included some of the most notorious (and sometimes anti-Jewish) bigots and crooks our nation has to offer: In addition to those mentioned above, there are Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, and the most powerful and perhaps least known: John Hagee...
Reply
...Regarding the marriage of right wing evangelicals/dispensationalists and Jews for Israel: there's no way to conclude beyond a shadow of a doubt that all or most of their Christian "allies" harbor the desire to see Jews converted or killed in advance of the second coming. And it's certainly a matter of faith as to whether they're hastening the rapture.
But in the final tally it hardly matters. The policies advocated by this unholy marriage are those destined to promote endless strife for Israelis, Palestinians, and others in the neighborhood. They are policies of domination and inequality. They are policies that privilege the well being of one population over another. In short, a recipe for disaster to be borne on the backs, not of those who live thousands of miles away, but of those who live there.

You are one of those wheo get the pore cleansing rage. You just attack him with an ad hominem attack. Where is the rhetoric about why he is wrong. Or maybe just maybe he is correct.
Reply
If you look at his record he is a liberal Democrat. He has the intestinal fortitude to stand for what he belives instead of kow towing to the leadership. And for that you rant like this about him. You obviously do not believe the idea, "I disagree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
You are pathetic in your post.

We have a helluva lot better chance of getting REAL healthcare reform at the state level than at the federal level. In fact, I believe the travesty being foist on us in the name of "reform" at the federal level is a pre-emptive strike against state-level single-payor universal coverage.

You have the history wrong. The Democrats engineered his being licked out of the primary so he ran as an independent. The Democrats pushed him out not the other way around. It was over only one issue. The war in Iraq. Apparently at that time that was the only test of being liberal. You obviously never looked at his overall voting record.

Just heard: Today health insurance stocks dropped after Reid announced there would be a public option. Lieberman made his announcement he would filibuster, and the stocks went back up. Gee....I wonder if Lieberman owns any health insurance stock.........

My Fellow Americans: Finally a Democrat with something between his ears. It's called a brain. While the Conservatives have to contend with an Air Head, (Snow from Maine), the Democrats try to Squelch a man of Reason who is looking out for the Country and not trying to Bury it.

Conservatives actually balance the Pros and Cons of each issue, thus attempting, to arrive a the most sensible solution for the Country.
Liberals on the other hand seem stuck in some type of Follow the Leader Philosophy whether it is best for the Country or Detrimental to the Country. It's almost as if they are trying not to offend Their Party, Their Leader, and the American People all at the same time. They have left the sense of reason out of all their equations.
It is just like on Propeller, when you agree with the Radical Liberal Proponent's and their comments, they trash you. When you disagree with the Radical Liberal Proponents and their comments, they trash you. When you just read their comments they Attack you for saying nothing. Basically, you just can not make them happy. Maybe they are just unhappy people. Probably they should live in a Country that Opposes every single idea and Suggestion that the Logical Individuals present. Maybe, Iran, Afghanistan, Venezuela. The Real American-

Your kind of line is being pushed mostly by "israel-firsters" who try to pretend they are talking about the issues, but fail to tell us that their "decision" is made primarily on the basis of protecting zionist crimes against humanity in Palestine and protecting corrupt zionist oligarchies in the US.

In fact, if we are to recover our democracy, we will need to get these people out of our politics, government and media. Their names and affiliations are becoming more overt. As individuals we should consider boycotting their companies and products. Our government should close down many of the front organizations as supporters of terrorism. This article contains many names of people and organizations that should be amongst the first to go.
Pro-Israel Group's Money Trail Veers Hard Right in Attacks on American Jews
http://www.propeller.com/story/2009/10/24/pro-isra...
StandWithUs - an "organization that ensures that Israel's side of the story is told" - has become increasingly aggressive in challenging the "pro-Israel" credentials of moderate Jewish-American groups....
....investigation into the tax records of the donors to StandWithUs, which professes to be ideologically neutral, found a web of funders who support organizations that have been accused of anti-Muslim propaganda and encouraging a militant Israeli and US foreign policy in the Middle East.
......The biggest donors to StandWithUs since 2005, according to a search of publicly available tax returns, were foundations controlled by Susan Wexner, who has contributed more than $850,000 to the group.
Wexner's family founded The Limited, which currently operates such well-known brands as Victoria's Secret, Bath & Body Works, Henri Bendel, C. O. Bigelow, The White Barn Candle Company and La Senza.
Wexner also made contributions to the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA) and the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (FDD).
....In 2007, CNN correspondent Atika Shubert and Arabic translators accused MEMRI of mistranslating portions of a Palestinian children's television program.
"Media watchdog MEMRI translates one caller as saying -- quote -- 'We will annihilate the Jews,'" said Shubert. "But, according to several Arabic speakers used by CNN, the caller actually says 'The Jews are killing us.'"
CAMERA, another media watchdog group, has caught criticism for denying reliable reports of settlement expansions, leading the executive director of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, Donald Wagner, to describe CAMERA as "a well-known source of extremist pro-Israel propaganda that is routinely challenged by Israeli and international human rights and peace organizations for its consistent misrepresentation of the facts in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.".......... -

I applaud Lieberman for having some guts. He seems to be the only Dem in Washington who has the stones to stand on principle. Every other Dem in DC is just mindlessly following the liberal crowd who cheer the Liar in Chief, Pelosi, and Reid.
