i've said it before - at the heart of every joke there is a kernel of intention. maybe we should send a seal team to hunt the man down...ha ha ha, i'm just joking. the shoe is on the other foot.
Reply
here's the thing; we see and hear about things like this and the defenders of this sorts of statements say there's no bigotry in the republican party.
i am both confused at their reactions and appalled at the statement

His comments were universally condemned by fellow Idaho Republicans. "Rex Rammell's comments are in very poor taste and should not have been said," said Sen. Mike Crapo. "I disagree often with the President and his policies. But the comment was totally unacceptable and should not have been made," said Sen. Mike Risch. Rep. Mike Simpson and former Idaho Gov. Phil Batt also offered harsh rebukes.

Certain things simply cross the line, as did this. Was it meant in jest? Probably. Was it appropriate? Never. Should he apologize? Absolutely. Even his own contemporaries see this. Only the rabid base will defend the indefensible, as evidenced here within this thread. With any luck, the base will quit blathering and actually learn something from their leaders here. Somehow I doubt it, but one can always hope...

Stupid SOB! And the same to anyone who would vote for a slob like that. I've had it with this crap. Time to pass a law that throws jerks like him in jail for threatening a public official....oh wait. We DO have that law. Hello out there in Justice Department land....are you asleep??? -

"When an audience member shouted a question about "Obama tags," Rammell responded, "The Obama tags? We'd buy some of those.""

Stupid remark and not funny at all. He is unworthy of being a Republican, much less an elected official. I hope he loses the election because of this.-

Wrong, he is a typical republican, very worthy . Every republican should embrace this guy. He is the perfect republican: a complete idiot, the republican way.

I could only hope that if he in fact does some hunting, that he bring Dick Cheney with them.

I feel as if there is an inherent sense that the level of respect expressed is dependant upon the degree of someone's race. For example, White=5, Asian=4, Hispanic=3, and Black=1. This may sound completely ridiculous, but I can't help but think this has to have some basis of truth. There is an inherent "class" system in the US, and this is why Obama will never be completely respected by some whites. Therefore, the racial jokes, yells of "you lie" and other ridicules will continue. They (those who think this way) will continue to disrespect him because there is an inherent sense of unworthiness in their eyes.

"After Rammell's comment was published in the Times-News, he said one person sent him an e-mail indicating he would ask the FBI for an investigation.
Threatening the president can be a felony punishable by five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
"I'm probably safe," Rammell said. "I'm not the one that started the whole thing."
Debbie Dujanovic Bertram, an FBI spokeswoman in Salt Lake City, said the agency couldn't comment on whether it was investigating or if it had received a complaint."
What a freaking idiot !!!!!!!
Not only was this in poor taste, it is criminal !!!!
Now I've been known to make some comments that aren't always polite.
But I don't think I've ever said to hunt down a man as if he were a game animal.
If this is what the GOP has to offer, they ought to take a deep look into their beliefs. Because that is no where near being a human being, let alone a Christian.
I would like to believe, that those in the party would shun this clown.
But I have a feeling that privately they are slapping him on the back and congratulating him for putting it out there.
Well to those who back this type of insanity. Enjoy where ya end up, it will not be pleasant for ya, and ya brought it upon yourselves.-

How many propeller.com subscribers do you think have advocated the murder, mutilation, criminal execution of President Bush and Vice President Cheney?
Just wondering if you think they should be taken seriously and investigated.

I know some personally. The point is those people don't need encouragement. It was a stupid comment that is simply not acceptable in a civil society. Has anyone suggested anything beyond that? -

Whether or not HE actually intends to physically hunt and kill the president is beside the point. Frankly, I am more concerned that some nut within earshot will be all too willing to do it for him. What happened to the days when inciting violence was still a crime? When/if someone actually DOES take one of these people seriously and fires off a few rounds in Obama's direction, will they be responsible then? Will anyone who downplays these statements stand up and admit they were wrong? Or will they all be so giddy that the president they hated so is dead that they won't care that a treasonous crime was committed after being egged on and provoked by the many Republican's out there with a microphone?

The racists, bigots, pro-rapists and scum of the earth come out of tyhe woodwork every day. I'm not a fan of Obama, but having him in office has shown everyone in the country exactly what the republican party stands for. And this party says it stands for Values? Complete BS.

So not a joking matter. That's a threat to the POTUS, and racist. People down south, to a lesser degree up north and other parts have gone out targeting people of color.

Yeah I called W Chimp in Charge or Shrub in Charge. I never wished him to die, be assassinated or the like because then Cheney would've been officially in charge and had even more power than he did. -
