Are Progressive Audiences Tired of MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann? »

In an interesting blog post today, Harvard Business professor, and Obama voter Bill George argued that MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann is hurting America. George said, “Olbermann cheapens discourse. He touts easy solutions. He speaks in truculent soundbites. His invective is hurting America!” This leads to the question are progressives sick of Olbermann?

I have yet to witness anyone surgically dismantle the Right as effectively as Olbermann.

Granted, some of Olbermann's shenanigans have been milked for all they're worth.

"An uncompromising megaphone of partisan rancor". Probably. But Olbermann isn't about balance. He is a liberal attack dog. His critique of the Right is an honest appraisal of their false values and instinctual hypocrisies.

Olbermann is a very smart and funny guy. A lot of the repugs don't like his show because there are so may facts and facts confuse them. Nice to have at least a one hour counter to fox noise 24/7 lie machine.

      FTA:

Before anyone gets the idea that [Bill George's] post is a one sided attack on Olbermann, this is what he had to say about Fox News, “Granted, his rivals at FOX News drum up discord just as effectively and dangerously..."

I watch Keith Olbermann as often as I can. He is my Edward R. Murrow. I cannot say the same for anyone at FOX News .....and it really has less to do with ideology than the simple fact that the points on Olbermann's show can backed up with research of the facts, whereas NONE of the shows at FOX can. It really IS that simple!

But then, FOX News really isn't a news outfit....

he's a one note one trick pony.

when he was blathering about Bush during the Bush administration, he was snarky and cool.

      now he's just a whiner.

i think he's jumped the shark. he's only playing to his choir.

I couldn't access the article but I couldn't disagree more with the summary. Spend five minutes on this board and you'll wonder if bricks wouldn't bounce off the heads of some of the posters here. Olbermann is way subtle compared to the likes of LImbaugh and Beck. I never miss his shows and I like someone who isn't afraid to call out dirtbags across the political spectrum. I hope his dad gets well soon.

I watched Olberman alot during the 6-months leading up to the 2008 election. That was kind of exciting with many twists and turns especially when McCain announced Sarah Palin as his running mate. After the election his ratings took a hit. I have no doubt that the closer we get to the 2010 mid-terms the higher his rating will become. He gives a good build-up leading up to the main event. Must of got that rah-rah stuff from his days as a sports-caster on ESPN.

What they couldn't afford a real picture of Oibermann?

O is the left's Beck, but they love him as much as they hate Beck. Why? Because he's quazy in a way that suits them.

Anyone that openly blogs for "Daily Kos" should never be held up as a 'credible' news person.

Sigh, though I always knew you were smart enough to find things on Gooogle I must have given you too much credit.

It tokk me what, 10 seconds to find a news story that's been out for a very long time now.

            http://video.google.com/videosearch?client=firefox...

Here is the link, you are either trying to be dishonest, or too lazy to look it up, because you don't want it known?

The only problem I've found with Keith Olbermann is that he tends to ignore stories that hot topic issues among the rest of the media, especially when they are negative towards Democrats, Progressives, and Liberals.

I don't fault him for that, it's his decision. But when he doesn't discuss the top stories, I tend to go look somewhere else.

In the same vein, I find that Olbermann discusses primarily issues that are negative towards Republicans and Conservatives. Obviously, that's not a surprise and he's welcome to do it. The only problem with his stories is that, much like Jon Stewart, he'll leave out details which might influence your impression of the event.

So I'm not saying he's outright lying, unless you want to refer to a "lie of omission". Instead I'm saying that he tends to ignore liberal-negative information, and focuses entirely on conservative-negative information.

He also doesn't seem to get interviews with "Right-wingers", and Sean Hannity and Bill OReilly tend to get liberals on their shows often.

Which is why I think Keith Olbermann is fairly...boring.
