    It is totally different, but for a completely different reason than you mentioned. Home Depot is a private company and can set any policy they like on their property regarding the clothing and other apparel that their employees wear while on duty. If he wanted to wear his button during his off-duty time, no problem. The fact that he deliberately refused to remove the button despite a reminder of company policy is insubordination. If he finds another company which will allow him to wear his pin, I suggest he apply for a job.
