    No one is stopping the right-wing religious bigots from spewing more hate from the pulpit. If they choose to spit venom at their congregations and call it holy, then go for it; the First Amendment protects them. However, if their sheep commit an act in which they attack someone solely for being gay, then may the wrath of the Federal government come upon their sheep.

    Statistics from the FBI indicate that many states have no hate crimes ever. Louisiana has consistently reported zero hate crimes per year, while Georgia and Alabama have consistently reported double-digit hate crimes for the past decade. The point is, Louisiana does not care to prosecute federally mandated hate crimes. For this reason, the Feds need the power to cede jurisdiction and prosecute what should be state cases.
