The damage done by the last administration is going to take years and years to undo.

For a change, who can blame Chavez and etc for this? America has done it to itself. There will be (more) blood. Stay tuned to this station.

I'm sure Obama will shake his hand for it. I guess his butt kissing isn't working.

This is not the brightest thing Chavez has ever done. This is very risky even with the dollar in the shape it's presently in. Most of the countries involved in this including Venezuela have big economic problems already.

Somewhat like Custer demanding an unconditional surrender from the Indians.

So they want to be more competitive?

Shouldn't you "free trade" types applaud this kind of move?

Oh wait, trade is only "free" when the U.S. gets to run the show, right? And why is their offer of an "alternative" necessarily "ANTI American"?

What a bunch of bigoted hypocrites.

Our own government is destabilizing the dollar (both parties)with huge deficits.

A trade surplus makes for a strong currency, not the experts running the printing presses!

now south america will have its own Euro. this is actually good. fewer, stronger currencies means a more stable world economy. stability on south america will be good for the growth of those economies which will be godd ofr everyone because it will open markets to the world.

those of you wondering where the value behind this will come from remember that Venezuela is part of OPEC, Bolivia is a rich mining resource, and most of these other nations are rich in natural resources. the only reason they have been poor for so long s that all there value has been shipped out due to defacto colonialism by foriegn corporations, which is why Venezuela and Bolivia nationalized those corporate operations a few years ago.

this is not a joke. if they use the dollar as their reserve currency it will help us. if they use the euro, it will hurt us.

I couldn't care less if South America traded in rocks or in dirt or in coffee mugs. I won't be spending any money there. Hopefully no one else will be either.

And then there's an upside,if Venezuela, and the other nut case countries are successful in this scheme it would by necessity relieve America of any obligations,if any,or all these nations were hit by a man made,or a natural disasters. We could set back, and count our U S dollars that they wouldn't want in their country, their citizens would have to make do.
