Hatch doesn't actually say Republicans are opposing healthcare reform because people will like it.

But he does say "Look what it will do to the insurance industry," as if that is important to peoples' health. And he says 119 million people will move to a government-run plan rather than buy private insurance. He also says the "two-party system," meaning the Republican party, will be threatened. He conveniently leaves out that if the Republicans worked with Democrats for better healthcare, their existence wouldn't be threatened.
So his reasoning is that giving people a healthcare plan that will work better than private insurance will destroy the Republican party.
In other words, he cares more about his party than the welfare of the people he represents.
the sheer nerve of this argument is incredible. And the sheer gullibility of those who buy this argument is even more astounding.-

What you ignore is that the insurance industry denies less claims than the government programs. Medicare denies more and Medicaid is the worst. Only Aetna insurance approaches Medicare. So why would anybody want the death panels already in existence in the government programs. The denial of claims when it is a life threatening problem is the death panel. Why do libs ignore this.

"And if they get there, of course, you’re going to have a very rough time having a two-party system in this country..."

"As Think Progress pointed out Hatch’s concern about the fate of the two party system..."
Aren't these the very same people who just recently had visions of an eternal Republican party? -

Blocking the opponents from doing good things to the public in an effort to avoid making the opponents look good? This is not news and (to be fair) have been the standard practice by politicians for a long time whether they are left or right.

The only difference here is the conservatives have raise the bar to nonsensical level.
