Scozzafava Says 'Hate, Lies' Wore Her Down »
Posted By TimALoftis 2 weeks, 4 days ago in Political NewsWhen Dede Scozzafava votes today, she will see her name on the Republican line for the 23rd Congressional District.
She plans to pull the lever for her Democratic opponent, then take the rest of the day off to do laundry and take care of other chores she ignored in the last two months of debating and defending her candidacy.
Scozzafava quit the race three days before the election and threw her support behind the Democrat, Bill Owens.
Scozzafava had been elected as a pro-choice Republican to be mayor of Gouverneur and member of the New York state Assembly. Suddenly, she was not conservative enough for the rest of the country.
Conservatives put Doug Hoffman on the ballot and he won support from talk show hosts and Republicans in state and national offices. Rush Limbaugh called Scozzafava a “RINO,” a Republican in Name Only.
“The amount of hate and lies and the deceitfulness,” she said. “I don’t believe that should be the characteristics that define the Republican Party. I think people should be allowed to have discussions and reasonable disagreements. But this was a full frontal assault on me personally and politically, for weeks.”
The phone calls came in to her office, as they had for weeks, from angry people all over the country.
The ringing overwhelmed her three state government staffers. Scozzafava answered a phone herself.
“There was a man from Oregon,” she said. “We talked for half an hour. In the beginning, he just started lecturing me on the Bible, lecturing me on sin, on liberalism. Finally, I said, ‘How about honesty? How about telling the truth?’”

The Republican Party has become the Party of no truth, no hope, only hate, lies, deception, and political spin.
If the Republicans want to lecture on the evil of sin and liberalism. They should look deep into their own hearts first.
For what do they champion but greed, power, self reliance- which is a joke, because, one's life could end in the next second. God is in control not us.-non interference by the government, hmmmmmmmmmm what then do we make of the Patriot Act,
these liars are for government control as long as they are in power !!!! When they are out of power they want to deny anyone else's use of it.
That is why I have a problem with conservatives, who don't understand wwhat being a conservative is. Just as I have a problem with liberals who don't know what a liberal is.
I'm more into preserving the Constitution, our liberties, the Bill of Rights, our Country the United States of America.
I don't want to conserve the greatness of our country, as if it must be minimised in order to make sure we have enough of it.
Yet that is what conservatives seek to do. They want it only for those who think as they do.
I don't want to liberalise it either, this nation of ours must be maintained within the boundries set forth in the constitution.
Maybe we need a party of preservationists !!! Ones, who understand that the greatness of this country remains in the freedom of all. Not just the wealthy, not just the poor, but of all who are citizens.
This attack on Scozzafava, shows a lack of any real care for our country and a deep concern for the politics of division.-

"The Republican Party has become the Party of no truth, no hope, only hate, lies, deception, and political spin."
To me that is an accurate description of the Democrat party as represented in congress and the White House right now. Obama was elected with "hope and change" and promised "open and transparent" . He talked about bipartisanship. Democrats have talked about how bad the Bush deficit was and now with Obama agreeing makes Bush look like a miser. Spend, spend, spend.
Then the house goes into Democrat caucus to create bills of the house to vote on without being allowed to put forth amendments only have an up or down vote. Reid did essentially the same thing after the health bill came out of finance. He took it and is creating a new bill by "merging" it and another bill. This is bipartisanship????
Your assertion of lies is silly. The Democrats love to rant about the insurance denials. What they ignore is the simple fact that the biggest deniers is the government programs. Medicare denies more than any insurance company. They also ignore that Medicare and Medicaid do not pay the costs of the services the providers give. The public option will make that much worse. Already there are many places that refuse to accept patients with Medicare and even more with Medicaid. In one state Medicaid pays only 15% of the cost. Forcing this on providers will bankrupt them. They are saying that the bill in the House is $1 trillion. What they do not tell you is that taxes will start immediately and the program will not start until 2014. That makes the real 10 year cost way above $2 trillion. There also have been many changes since the markup so that figure is low. If it goes like any other program it is low ba a factor of 2 to 10. Medicare was a factor of 4. That would make this program $8 trillion over 10 years. An example of a lies from the Democrats on health care. There are many more. -

A better name for Democrats and liberals is collectivists rather than socialist. The collectivists want the government to control things not the people. Therefore they want to have the entity that controls things to have all the money they need. And you talk about the greed of the Republicans. The Democrats want the "collective to have a lot more money than it really needs. therefore they are known as tax and spend Democrats. To me the tax part is GREED by the Democrats who think they can control everything from the government. Look at the health care revamp bills the Democrats want. It is 1/6 of our economy so the want to create 54 brand new bureaucracies to micromanage every aspect of it. Then as part of that they will have a law FORCING EVERYBODY to buy insurance. And I thought this was a free country. Democrats the party of greed and removing our freedoms. The bigger the government gets with bureaucracies the less freedom we have. All the time they keep on saying they are just trying to help people out. I guess their definition of help is fur lined handcuffs.

If you take a hard look at the liberal posters on this site you will fine the discription that you gave Republicands is accurate for them. "hate, lies, deception, and political spin" is what a lot of liberal posters put forth.
Basic concepts of Conservatives and Republicans is less government (thus more freedom), lower taxes (thus more money in our pockets), enabling people to do the best they can (and providing help with that). On the other hand the Democrats have as their ONLY solution more bureaucracies to grow government and then have to have higher taxes. All halp comes with rules that many times disrupts the peoples live they give it to (Fur lined handcuffs).
This is just a start. I could go on for a long time. -

Conservatives have to realize they're in the same boat (or moored right next to it) as liberals...that neither can win in the long run because of their extremism.
Reply
People are afraid of either extreme, and by and large want middle of the road candidates. They don't overly mind if their candidates lean a little left or right, but they feel safer near the trunk than from the end of the limbs. -

OK, just a little thing here, but you talk about America being your country, yet you spell like a Brit (or a Canadian). MinimiZed and LiberaliZed. No S. It's a Z. Just sayin'.

Bottom line is DeDe should be asking herself why she signed up as a Republican, when she clearly disagrees with every major (and most minor) policies of the Republican Party. This chick is not a Republican. SHe's not eve a moderate. She was more liberal than the Democrat for God's sake.
My son is thinking about running for office as a Republican in a decidedly Democrat area. The first advice he got was change his party to Dem because it's the only way he could win (many have done it around here). My son's response? "If I did that, then I'd have no more integrity than the guy I'm running against."
I'd wager, tho, that DeDe, being in a conservative district made herself a Republican to get those who vote straight down party lines, and figured she could bluff her way around the issues and fool enough ppl . It worked. Until this election, when the conservatives/Republicans wanted a candidate that was not in Obama's pocket. That didn't want their representative to vote against every political believf they have.
Republicans can deal with a "moderate Republican". What they cannot deal with is a person who is decidedly left of center on every damned issue being the only choice on the Republican ballot.
Don't you want candidates that represent your political beliefs? WOuld you want a real Democrat, or a DINO that was pro-life, pro-trad marriage, pro-defense, pro-war, pro-lower taxes, anti-gov't run healthcare, pro-smaller gov't, yadda, yadda.
Instead of calling Republicans and conservatives narrow minded or intolerant, or too far right, put yourself in our shoes. Would you have wanted... I don't know... how about Mitt Romney... running on the Democratic ticket in your district? He's pretty "moderate" as Republicans come. But he's NOT a Democrat, no matter what label he wears on his chest. But he's about as liberal as DeDe is conservative.
It's all a matter of conservatives just wanting people who are at least MOSTLY in agreement with the Republican platform. Maybe they are more liberal socially, but hold firm on fiscal conservatism, you know? But across the board liberal? That, sir, is NOT a Republican, and it's that the Republicans have been pushing forward liberal-lite that has lost us a lot of elections. If ppl want a liberal, they vote for the Dem. Liberal-lite is neither popular with liberals nor conservatives, so to keep running liberals branded as Republicans is simply going to hand the Dems the victories, because there's no clear choice.
Oh, wait... now I get it. That's what you were hoping! Nevermind (sigh)

I suggest you take a hard look at how the Democrats treated Leiberman. His voting record is very liberal. He has taken a stand on very selected issues and the Democrats in his state kicked him out with worse language.

Perhaps one should look at what is being foisted upon the American people as choices.

We have conservatives who want to destroy the parts of the Constitution that grant basic protections to the citizens from the government. But they mask it with lies of not wanting government interference.
We have liberals who want the government to set guidelines, while they do not realize once that door is opened it cannot be closed again.
We have both parties favoring government as long as it fits their agenda's.
Now I understand that government is needed in order to maintain a country and it's laws.
But the laws of the country need to be obeyed, and enforced. Not tweaked and adjusted to fit the political goals of the parties involved.
But again we have both parties wanting to take our eyes off of the truth, in order to have us watch our supposed enemies.
The truth is they are both our enemies.
They want control, they want their agenda's enacted so they may shape this country into what they see it as.
Well, I don't know about all of you. But I have had enough of the lies of the power brokers.
It is time for Americans to vote for themselves instead of the elitist's in both parties.
Common people need to be put into office, everyday workers who deal with the problems of real life daily. I don't mean people with no understanding of the problems of the world, but people whose goals are to make the needed changes so that the problems are dealt with and not hidden by a different agenda.-

Senate observers note that Reid stood up for Lieberman at a crucial point last year when Democratic colleagues wanted to strip his chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committee. Just before Democratic senators voted on the issue at a closed-door meeting last November, Reid came to Lieberman’s defense.

Interesting choice. And the "condolance calls" she got from Democrats is also interesting.
"Scozzafava had been elected as a pro-choice Republican to be mayor of Gouverneur and member of the New York state Assembly. Suddenly, she was not conservative enough for the rest of the country."
The rest of the country can't vote for her. Only registered Republicans in her district can. Granted, some big guns weighed in on this fight, but the article never explains why. Nor does it explain why Hoffman chose to run and was evidently doing well (before the big guns started in on her). Ah well, I guess this news source never thought to ask. -

Poor "wittle" Scozzafava, she had her tiny little feelings hurt. And now she has to go home and do all her laundry that she didn't have time to do when she was campaigning as a Obamacrat - she couldn't make up her mind what she was really. Thank the real and living God that she "bailed" out. Maybe Obama One will give her a Czar job. You know, like the ones that were filled by non-qualifed buddies of the anointed one.

I was interested in finding out why Scozzafava was nominated in the first place. If your interested here is the story that explains how Janet Duprey wielded power over 11% of the district’s ballots. It also explains how whe, Janet Duprey, went against the wishes of her county’s delegation and abruptly switched her vote to put her pal Dede over the top.

She should have never been selected in the first place. America is 40 conservative and only 20 liberal. Obama's policies are not what the majority of Americans want. -

Don't know much about this lady or her record. But this whole episode is sad. Anyone is entitled to an opinion; but if I were a New Yorker I'd be pretty upset about outsiders barging in on an essentially local decision.

Without making a plaster saint out of Ms. Scozzafava, some of the attacks from some people seem to have been completely without class. Some of the people, e.g. Rush Limbaugh, have been stalwarts in the "no class" league for a long time. But there were others from unexpected quarters.
In the greater scheme of things, politics is not very important. If politicians did not wield the power to immensely screw up our lives, we would accord them only the respect we owe to any everyday huckster--respectful listening followed by doing whatever we decide. Instead, we give them lots of power and are stuck with dealing with them as important. That being the case, we should at least deal in some approximation of class and civility. -

It's the right thing that the GOP gets the candidate they want. Who chose Scozzafava? Did Republicans who live in that district have a voice? I think the answer is no. The voters in the 23rd district now have a clear choice. A conservative vs a liberal. If Dede had run, the choice would be between 2 liberals. So the right thiing happened. If Owens wins, so be it, at least there is a clear and different choice.
