Why Aren't You Listening To Us, President Obama? »
Posted By bruhaha 1 month, 2 weeks ago in Political OpinionWhy aren't you listening to us, President Obama? Can you not hear our voices crying out every day and every night, begging, pleading for relief? You were so full of promise when first we met. You spoke like a statesman, your ideas were fair and just, your vision seemed clear and your determination seemed fixed and fast. You spoke of change , of yes we can and of being fired up and ready to go. Our hearts jumped at the prospect of, once again, having a nation we could stand proudly behind for our children and for the world. What was it that changed you? When you made your way up to the Great White House on the shining hill did you suddenly discover that the task we charged you with was more than you were prepared to take on? And did you also realize that you had underestimated the terrible dark power and wealth of the corporations we sent you there to do battle with on our behalf?
Why aren't you listening to us? Is that Great White House too far away from the fields, the streets, the towns and cities and slums from whence we sent you forth? Have you lost sight of us and have your ears grown calloused to our cries? Did you forget the stories we told you of our plights and the one you told us of your own mother's struggles as she made her way through her last days, struggling desperately with the beastly insurance companies who sought to deny her the basic needs of any human being in her final days? Has the blare of lies and the siren song of money obscured the task for which we sent you there?
Why aren't you listening to us? Don't you know we have your back? Don't you see us lined up behind you? Can't you feel the love, strength and support we are sending you? Don't you remember the dreams we shared and the hopes we had in common? We forged a fine, strong sword for you to carry into battle - the will of the people. We gave you a clear direction in which to proceed. Now we stand waiting, watching and praying for you to wield that sword and bring forth the changes you so enthusiastically promised.
Why aren't you listening to us? Why do you continue to waste time on bipartisanship, attempting to strike deals with ultra-conservative crackpots whose only agenda is to take your presidency down and along with it all our hopes and dreams of having a country that cares about it's people.

in order to be nominated by the dems or repubs for president, one must pass a series of tests to prove loyalty to the agenda of the empire.
Reply
nothing in obama's career has shown any deviation from that agenda.
during the campaign, he spoke vaguely of revising some policies, while making no firm commitments to do so. closing guantanamo in one year was the exception, which he will fail at doing.
the questions raised in the article are all quite fair. we can be certain obama would never directly address them, because the penalty for independence is severe. ask paul wellstone's family and friends. -

When fishing and you catch a minnow (such as the two unimportant races you mentioned...though you failed to mention the important race wherein the GOP divided itself and ate it's own), do you spend the next few years bragging about how you caught a shark?

Probably the only place that a extreme right-wing nutcase like Hoffman could even run would be a district that has been GOP for decades. That Republicans there threw him out suggests the beginning of recovery of the GOP from the nutcases.

Apart from that, the results seem to be most consistent with voters rejecting "corrupt oligarchies" and their perversion of our democracy.
In the spirit of this article, Americans moved in the direction of doing away with the "privileges" of a corrupt, entrenched oligarchy.
We need to take that further and end the abuse of America and Americans by ending the "privileged monopoly" that we have acquiesced in for a small coterie of corrupt oligarchs in "predatory financial organizations". We also need to end immediately and forever the "revolving door" between that "Wall Street" coterie and government.
Surely real conservatives will agree that "privileged monopolies" have no place in a "free-market" America. After all, we should remember our founding fathers principles and their aversions to entrenched, corrupt oligarchies. They were right in insisting on public banks and we did spectacularly well with them for over a century until the last time the oligarchies got out of control and subborned our government with their corruption (a century ago).
Job Losses? Not in North Dakota. A Stimulus Plan That Really Works
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ellen-brown/job-loss...
On October 21, 2009, Dave Camp, the GOP Ranking Member on the House Ways and Means Committee, issued a disturbing report on the status of new job creation since President Obama's $787 billion stimulus plan went into effect in February. According to the report, the nation has actually lost nearly as many jobs as the plan was projected to create. Instead of adding 3.5 million new jobs, 2.7 million jobs have been lost. California, which was supposed to gain 396,000 jobs, has lost 336,400 jobs. Arizona, which was supposed to gain 70,000, has lost 77,300. Michigan, which was supposed to gain 109,000, has lost 137,300. A total of 49 states and the District of Columbia have all reported net job losses.
In this dark firmament, however, one bright star shines. The sole state to actually gain jobs is an unlikely candidate for the distinction: North Dakota. North Dakota is also one of only two states expected to meet their budgets in 2010. (The other is Montana.) North Dakota is a sparsely populated state of less than 700,000 people, largely located in cold and isolated farming communities. Yet, since 2000, the state's GNP has grown 56 percent, personal income has grown 43 percent and wages have grown 34 percent. The state not only has no funding problems, but this year it has a budget surplus of $1.3 billion, the largest it has ever had. -

Why is North Dakota doing so well, when other states are suffering the ravages of a deepening credit crisis? Its secret may be that it has its own credit machine. North Dakota is the only state in the Union to own its own bank. The Bank of North Dakota (BND) was established by the state legislature in 1919, specifically to free farmers and small businessmen from the clutches of out-of-state bankers and railroad men. The bank's stated mission is to deliver sound financial services that promote agriculture, commerce and industry in North Dakota.

The Advantages of Owning Your Own Bank....
..... that is where a state-owned bank has enormous advantages: States own huge amounts of capital, and they can think farther ahead that their quarterly profit statements, allowing them to take long-term risks. Their asset bases are not marred by oversized salaries and bonuses; they have no shareholders expecting a sizable cut, and they have not marred their books with bad derivatives bets, unmarketable collateralized debt obligations and mark-to-market accounting problems......

Nothing against bipartisanship, but it's time to ignore the fans of Beck and Limbaugh. They will never change and they are no longer important. Close Quantanamo, get out of Iraq, stop supporting Israel. America will support you. The neocons will put up the usual fight but it is time to simply ignore them.-

Every American is important. Not just the ones who agree with you. That is the problem with these two parties. It is not about the people, it is about them and thier power. Funny you call yourself JUSTICE4ALL but wish to choose who should have justice.

My Fellow Americans: Who are you rooting for? It seems understandable to root for your home team. If your a N.E. Patriot Fan you won't suddenly become a Jet Fan. If your a Yankee Fan you most likely won't become a Red Sox Fan. So, it goes, you'll go to a game and cheer for your favorite team. You'll cuss out the Umpire, cuss out the Opponent, cuss out the Ref but when the time is up and the Two Minute Warning has clicked down to the last seconds the game is all but over. Win or Lose, you are either elated or bummed out but it will all pass and their is still the next game.

Now the American people seem to be treating Politics like sports. Latching on to a Party, (Team), and with little attention to it's benefits or detriments to the country, it becomes an all out Cheering Agenda. If the Team is losing jobs, it does not matter, that is just part of the game. If the Team is creating enormous debt, hey, their are viewed as just behind in the score and will come back. If the team appears to be siding with the enemy, (Other Team), don't worry, we are just trying to figure out their plays. Politics has become a Fantasy Sport.
Instead of Supporting, Democrats or Republicans, which have both been losing teams it is time to realize that the only team that is of any real and genuine importance is the Team America.
When decisions are made we must be on the side that will make America better and not stick to one point of view that is running our country into the ground. Whether it is the Democratic Party or the Republican Party.
American People do not want to lose their Freedoms. Congress makes Laws but to Justify their Jobs every day, it does not have to be a day, where a New and Freedom Infringing Law must be Passed. Americans want their days to be less problematic instead of having everything that might kill us promoted out of proportion. Americans want to be able to live as Americans and not as Third World Countries. Americans want America to be the same Great Country it has always been in the Past. Americans don't mind the Government refashioning some of the rules to make things better but Object to changing the rules to make government the final word. Americans want to be Americans and that is the Party that should receive all the Support. The Real American -

All you are really saying is that BOTH our political parties have been captured by a corrupt, entrenched oligarchy. Do you see any better "example" in the GOP?
Reply
Our founding fathers knew about the perverse effects of corrupt oligarchies and did all they could to give us structures that would protect us from them. A century ago the oligarchy became sufficiently corrupt and out of control that Teddy Roosevelt broke up all their cartels. Now we need to do that again - starting with the small coteries of corrupt financial oligarchs and the "revolving door" between "Wall Street" and the government.
The More Things"Change"...
Let’s start with the two political parties that supposedly “run” this country. The truth is that political parties don’t run this country, money does. Our entire political system is based on wealth. This has been true in some degree since the day we gained our independence, but it has never been as apparent as it is now. Money drives political campaigns. All the politicos know this and so do most people.
We, the people, are supposedly equal under the law, and we are, except that some are more equal than others depending on their net worth and how their money is used. During the last presidential election, money coming from “ordinary folks” in a “populist surge of donations” put Barack Obama over the top and they supposedly carried the day.
It never happened.
What really happened is that the people who controlled the financial sector of the economy saw a massive train wreck about to happen and they needed someone malleable and ambitious enough to work with them to clean up the mess that would follow. At that time, A junior Senator from Illinois with his golden tongue a good understanding of quid pro quid, stepped into the batter’s box. The financial sector then showered him with campaign funds in order to minimize the catastrophe that was, beyond a shadow of doubt, going to happen. The truth was that everyone in government, and those working in the financial sector, knew that the only recourse available to prevent a financial meltdown, was for the Federal Government to bail out the bankers, the stock exchange, the real estate market and the hedge fund people, mortgage lenders and the manufacturing base (Automobile manufacturers and the defense industry).
Let’s take a look at campaign financing. Obama raised....
....The American people are slowly realizing that we have traded one war-monger for another. Once we were in Afghanistan to fight al Qaeda, now we are trying to kill the Taliban. In reality we are killing anyone that stops us from building that oil pipeline.
Almost a decade ago we saw a candidate tout “compassionate conservatism”. Nothing was further from the truth. Now we have a President that speaks of “change”. The only change I see is a different battlefield for people to die....
