You must be referring to the test Nixon had commissioned to prove pot was evil, wherein "Scientists" asphyxiated monkeys to death and said the pot must have killed their brain cells and as we all know asphyxiation does just that.

Being educated on something before you speak does not make you a pot smoker, it just makes you informed.

The bottom line...if you have COPD, smoking cigarettes is bad, smoking marijuana is worse, and combining the two, is potentially lethal. Not only does marijuana lead to serious health consequences, but according to the Office of National Drug Control, it bears severe social and economic consequences, as well.

Wrong! Cannabis is NOT like tobacco at all. You should really, really learn what you're talking about.

Also, please tell me what severe "social" consequences it has? Please, really, please tell me...and don't use any of Anslinger's lies or those fraudulent Rhesus monkey tests from the 70s.

Oh, and since you brought it up, what are the "severe...economic consequences"?

I recommend, FairNBalanced, if you REALLY are "fair and balanced", to go to www.proposition420.com and take a look at the potential economic BENEFITS of Cannabis.

                    Effects on the Heart

Within a few minutes after smoking marijuana, the heart begins beating more rapidly and the blood pressure drops. Marijuana can cause the heart beat to increase by 20 to 50 beats per minute, and can increase even more if other drugs are used at the same time.
Because of the lower blood pressure and higher heart rate, researchers found that users' risk for a heart attack is four times higher within the first hour after smoking marijuana.

                    Effects on the Lungs

Smoking marijuana, even infrequently, can cause burning and stinging of the mouth and throat, and cause heavy coughing. Scientists have found that regular marijuana smokers can experience the same respiratory problems as tobacco smokers do, including:
                    Daily cough and phlegm production
                    More frequent acute chest illnesses
                    Increased risk of lung infections
                    Obstructed airways
Marijuana contains more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco smoke and because marijuana smokers usually inhale deeper and hold the smoke in their lungs longer than tobacco smokers, their lungs are exposed to those carcinogenic properties longer.
One study found that marijuana smokers were three times more likely to develop cancer of the head or neck than non-smokers. Many researchers believe than smoking marijuana is overall more harmful to the lungs than smoking tobacco.

Effects on the Heart...PLEASE SOURCE YOUR INFORMATION. IT IS FRAUDULENT! What you put forth here is a complete lie...typical of the MISINFORMATION which is common amongst ANTI-FREEDOM types.

Effects on the Lungs...AGAIN, WHERE ARE YOU GETTING YOUR LIES?

"Smoking marijuana...cause heavy coughing." Really? Can you offer any evidence of this? As a user of Cannabis, I have NEVER experienced those symptoms...nor have I ever met anyone who has...with the singular exception of the coughing common to the initial intake Cannabis.

"Scientists have found...as tobacco smokers do..." WHAT SCIENTISTS? WHAT STUDIES? You're blowing smoke right now...strait up LIES! As for the "respiratory problems"...um, did you know that Cannabis is a known treatment for Asthma? Did you know that it is a known bronchial dilator? That it kills cancer cells?

"Daily cough and phlegm production"...LIE! This is a real lie? What proof can you provide?

"More frequent acute chest illnesses" BS! Again, PROVE IT.

"Increased risk of lung infections"...Um, wrong again. Actually, the opposite is true. Again, THIS IS A KNOWN ASTHMA TREATMENT DUE TO IT'S ABILITY TO OPEN THE AIR PASSAGES.

                            "Obstructed airways"...see above...

"Marijuana contains more carcinogenic...carcinogenic properties longer." Um, proof? Actually, you're wrong here...completely wrong. You are repeating lies...and I ask you to PROVE THEM.

"One study found...neck than non-smokers." Please see MeanMr.Mustard's post below. Apparently you don't know what you're talking about.

"Many researchers believe...than smoking tobacco." Such phrases as "many researchers" generally are indicative of lies. It is in fact one of the more transparent lies within an argument available.

FairNBalanced...I'd like to let you in on a little TRUTH.

On February 25th, 2004, I donated a kidney to my best friend, my Best Man and my child's God-Father whom I had known since 1981. In order to donate, I was required to undergo EXTENSIVE physical and psychological testing. At this point I had been a regular Cannabis user for 12 years and an occasional user for about 5 years prior. My physical tests came back stating that I was in perfect health (they will not accept you as a donor unless you are healthy). Note also that at this time I had not seen a doctor in over a dozen years (no insurance). My lungs...perfect. My heart...perfect.

As far as the psychological testing (of which they require in order to discern whether or not your willingness to donate is an honest choice or some form of coercion or bribe), I openly spoke of my use. Both of those Doctors (psychologists) stated their was no issue with my Cannabis use. Speaking with the doctors, I questioned them on this subject when it came up. Neither of them stated anything wrong with Cannabis use insofar as brain development or damage. One even stated that it was healthier (not just safer, but healthier) than any other recreational substance I could use.

The primary Transplant Doctor, when the subject came up, stated that though it was against the law at that time in Arizona for him to recommend Cannabis use for pain relief or any other reason, Cannabis use had NO detrimental effects which could complicate the surgery or my recovery. He also stated that it was safer than the pain medications that I would be given and that if I chose, of my own volition, to use Cannabis, do so.

By the way, these were doctors at the Mayo Hospital in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Post surgery, I was given several prescriptions for seriously addictive and dangerous pain medications, notably Vicadin. I DID NOT TAKE THE VICADIN. The few pills I did take DID NOT TAKE MY PAIN AWAY...just dulled my perception of it. Instead, my girlfriend ended up, 2 years later, giving those pills to her brother. Me? I used Cannabis. In a post-surgery check-up, when asked, I told the doctor of my disdain for the pills and my choice in Cannabis. He had NO PROBLEM with that.

Personally, I will trust Mayo Doctors and my own experience over the lies you're repeating.

Last thing, FairNBalanced...Are you a racist?

I ask this because, well, the word "marijuana" was adopted BECAUSE it was a foreign sounding word. When Harry Anslinger was attempting to criminalize Cannabis (the first agricultural crop in history) for the benefit of economic interests such as DuPont Chemicals, Hearst Newspapers and Standard Oil, he selected this little known word...basically a slang term that had been used by Pancho Villa's soldiers...for the simple reason that Hemp/Cannabis was still a, at that time, a strong economically viable crop...one which was in direct competition with those industries stated. With individuals such as Henry Ford and Adolph Diesel advocating Hemp/Cannabis as a fuel, with Cannabis such a dominant crop, it would have been impossible to outlaw the plant under those circumstances. It would by like trying to outlaw corn!

Thus Anslinger and Hearst began using this slang term specifically to try to draw forth racist sentiments. It worked. Ignorance prevailed. You can see from yourself and your own posts what, sadly, more than four score and seven years of propaganda will do to a culture. Thus, when you use the word "marijuana", you are doing nothing more than repeating RACIST LIES. Again, are you a racist?

By the way, did you know that the first laws written in Colonial America, the Jamestowne Compact of 1619, REQUIRED that of any arable land, HALF of it MUST be dedicated to the growing of Cannabis (I like this document...no less than three of my direct ancestors were signers of it).

Actually son, Cannabis is a bronchial dilator...an approved asthma treatment. My grandmother was prescribed Cannabis back in the 1930s from Duke University. The lies about it being bad for the lungs are just that...lies. It is known to basically (that is if you know anything about what you're trying to talk about) do the opposite of tobacco smoke. You really should learn what you're talking about.
