i know there will be guffaws over bachman calling the proposed health care reform "the crown jewel of socialism."

those would be joining the ranks in rejecting the s-word on faith alone, as is usually the case when people do not understand economic socialism in the first place.-

"Now her concern is about health-care reform, and for good reason. In this interview with Sean Hannity, she called the Democrats' proposal "the crown jewel of socialism":"

You left out the first part of the snippet. You know, the part where the author wretches their bias all across the page.
You mean America is instituting a program for the people? Like, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security. Those programs in which none of you participate. Right? But let's leave the rest of us to private enterprise. They are doing such a great job and are currently controlling costs so well! Your going to pay one way or another. Don't expect these companies to simply decide to slash profits just to give you a break. Their CEO has a gold plated fish tank he wants for his pool! And he'll get that. Because its the right thing. And a moat for his castle if he likes. It's the American Way. And if you don't like it he'll build a wall. And then a bigger wall. Until you are simply outside unable to look in. Then you will realize you are now a member of the proletariat because there is nothing left for the rest of us. Yes, Greed is good! And we can all be part of the top 10% or even better if we just work hard enough. Never mind the mathematics! We can all reap huge bonuses and tax breaks and live in 4,000 sq. foot homes. If we just work hard enough. And America will live on forever! No problems ever again. It was those poor folks problem that caused the latest mess anyway. They should have read the fineprint. They always screw everything up for the rest of us!
We must give you the keys back to the henhouse. Otherwise we're doomed. We almost got there before didn't we? The Promised Land, was that America under Bush (both), Reagan, maybe even Richard Nixon? The perfect America we always wanted. Where there were no needy. No one below ourselves to worry about. Private enterprise took care of everything. For those so fortunate provided for those with little and never turned away and shut the gate. Remember those days? Don't you? The days when all Americans that worked long hours reaped generous rewards for their labors. The days when those at the top lived much like the rest of us? You remember? Don't you? I am having a hard time doing the same.
Of course you will dismiss this all as some sort of Socialist claptrap.Take the easy way out. Ignore the trickle up that has been going on. The concentration of wealth to the top. It won't affect you afterall. It's the taxes that are going to get you.
Therefore Government is evil - Private Enterprise is good. It's black and white like everything else , right?

Will she pay for my travel, food and lodging? If so, I'd go visit the Smithsonian and a few monuments and make my house call on my representatives from Georgia who happen to be republicans and obstructionists and in the pockets of the insurance and medical lobbies.

Listen, pal. I was there. I saw those crowds filling the National Mall, from the West Lawn all the way past the Washington Monument. I've seen aerial-photo analyses, using the Martin Luther King "I Have a Dream" event as a benchmark, that clearly show that 1.8 million people were at that event. 75,000 people would not have been able to shut down the highways in the early afternoon, or jam Verizon Wireless' cellphone network.

"The socialists don't give a damn what the people want anyway. They'll be looking for work next November. Count on it."

--You're hopelessly confused. See, the reason cons are bitter and catatonic now (more so than usual, that is) is because you supported a party which served 5% or maybe 10% of the population for 8 years (and ignored the rest) and then got kicked out of power as a result. You're here desperately spinning in place like a clown because Bush and the GOP ignored what the vast majority of Americans said they wanted time and time again. We know this because Bush left office with a 22% approval rating and the GOP continues to disintegrate by the day. Anyway, why do cons pretend that you care what "America" wants when everyone knows you think you're the only real Americans? ;-P
