Former UK Ambassador: CIA sent people to be raped with broken bottles »
Posted By tehranchik 2 weeks, 2 days ago in Political NewsThe CIA relied on intelligence based on torture in prisons in Uzbekistan, a place where widespread torture practices include raping suspects with broken bottles and boiling them alive, says a former British ambassador to the central Asian country.
Craig Murray, the rector of the University of Dundee in Scotland and until 2004 the UK's ambassador to Uzbekistan, said the CIA not only relied on confessions gleaned through extreme torture, it sent terror war suspects to Uzbekistan as part of its extraordinary rendition program.
"I'm talking of people being raped with broken bottles," he said at a lecture late last month that was re-broadcast by the Real News Network. "I'm talking of people having their children tortured in front of them until they sign a confession. I'm talking of people being boiled alive. And the intelligence from these torture sessions was being received by the CIA, and was being passed on."

It's also why the cia is being found guilty of some of these crimes in foreign countries.

The guilty verdicts in Italy tell us the world was watching.
fta:
"Murray asserts that the primary motivation for US and British military involvement in central Asia has to do with large natural gas deposits in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. As evidence, he points to the plans to build a natural gas pipeline through Afghanistan that would allow Western oil companies to avoid Russia and Iran when transporting natural gas out of the region."
Is there any doubt as to why we are in Afghanistan? -

dr - You are correct. The case in Italy is specific to Italy. But there is a much larger picture here.

Remember the Spanish judge?--- Garzon - http://www.pen.org/page.php/prmID/1188
And this cia torture case is being brought to light by a Brit.
I see a much bigger picture than just the case in Italy. I think it's the tip of the iceberg. I think bush/cheney - cia - contractors and foreign hires all committed atrocities and are all connected.
I can't separate the cia that was convicted in Italy from any other part of the cia responsible for torturous acts. I've been reading the stories for years and I want all of these people to own what they did and feel true sorrow. Join the human race.
btw - latest from the Italian case. abc no less.

So, essentially, one of the reasons for our involvement in the region was for building the Trans-Afghanistan Pipeline?

Another was establishing a military base to protect the oil routes in the Persian Gulf and as a force to counter-act Iran's growing influence in the Middle East.
Using heinous means to achieve questionable goals almost always end disastrously. -

'On behalf of all decent people,I would like to thank Mr. Murray for taking a stand. It just goes to show what a bloody hypocrite 'Holy Tony' is.He turned from being Labour to extreme Conservatism, from Protestant to Catholic, changed Britain from a proud independent State to being an American lackey.Btw.There is nothing at all wrong with being a Catholic,I'm just trying to show that the man is incapable of taking a principled stand on anything.

The disgusting career of Bliar has indeed condemned Britain to the status of a hoodlum third-word state in political terms.
I LOVED England but won't go near the place any more.
I'll go to my daughter's Oxford graduation when she finally gets it together to complete - after leave of absence for her mother's illness and death.

You only forgot to tell us what kind of terrorism they are supporting. It becomes clearer and clearer that most of them are not Americans at all - rather they are israel-firsters. As such they think it just fine and dandy that Americans can be suckered into these kinds of acts against our own democratic principles.

Where are the Neo-Con Apologists to defend this?
Endoscopy...you call yourself a Christian. Is this what you approve of? Your Evangelical President GWBush established this. Is this what Jesus would have done?
Wolfie...you're so afraid of your rights being stolen...well, are these the rights you want to preserve? The right to rape a person with a broken bottle? Is this what you defend when you defend the legacy of GWBush?
Striker...When you leave the United States through secession, is this how your National Socialist State of Texas operate? It already is the leader in both executions as well as executions in error...and the leader in forcing American citizens to receive poisonous injections (Gardasil...for the exclusive profit of Merck). Do you plan on adding broken bottle rape to the list of freedoms in your new country?
pc25...what do your beloved polls and popularity ratings say about this? Is this something you can defend (being that you haven't offered defense on ANYTHING I've ever called you out on)
Klarissa...how about you? What are your opinions here?
SPEAK UP, YOU NEO-CON APOLOGISTS! THIS IS WHAT YOU HAVE BROUGHT US! THIS IS YOUR LEGACY! DEFEND THESE ACTIONS!-

Which is why Obama discontinued the practice, right? RIGHT?
Au contraire, Obama preserved extraordinary rendition. The practice continues.
Wake up, old wyrm. Fascism comes in two flavors, these days.
