Hasan Was Mortified About Deployment to War »
Posted By tehranchik 2 weeks, 3 days ago in Political NewsBorn and reared in Virginia, the son of immigrant parents from a small Palestinian town near Jerusalem, he joined the Army right out of high school, against his parents’ wishes. The Army, in turn, put him through college and then medical school, where he trained to be a psychiatrist.
But Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the 39-year-old man accused of Thursday’s mass shooting at Fort Hood, Tex., started having second thoughts about his military career a few years ago after other soldiers harassed him for being a Muslim, he told relatives in Virginia.
He had also more recently expressed deep concerns about being sent to Iraq or Afghanistan. Having counseled scores of returning soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder, first at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington and more recently at Fort Hood, he knew all too well the terrifying realities of war, said a cousin, Nader Hasan.
“He was mortified by the idea of having to deploy,” Mr. Hasan said. “He had people telling him on a daily basis the horrors they saw over there.”

It seems the good Major had been disciplined, perhaps repeatedly, in the past. He was promoted in the Medical Corps despite the disciplinary action, which is more common that most would appreciate.

He was ordered to Fort Hood because he had not done any clinical work. He had tried to stay at Walter Reed, but was ordered to work in the function which was paid for by the U.S. Army. He owed a term in the Army (undetermined length), and was not happy about it.
I am not aware of anyone teasing him about being a Muslim. That is a sure way to gain a discplinary session in the military, especially now. I'm also sure it happened, just like short people are teased, bald people are teased, etc, etc.
The Major was recently ordered to Iraq, and was not pleased. It would have been his first deployment. He would not have been in a combat position.
His blog entries indicate he was sympathetic to the suicide bombers over the American soldiers.-

With one difference, being "teased" about being a muslim is usually a result of the villification of muslims by the right wing as an excuse for going to war, it seems the right loves to call them the enemy of all we hold dear. BIGGGGGG difference. -

FTA:
"Hasan recently was involved in a spat with another Fort Hood soldier residing in his apartment complex, apparently related to his Muslim beliefs.
The manager of the complex, John Thompson, said the other soldier, John Van de Walker, allegedly keyed Hasan's car and also removed and tore up a bumper sticker that read "Allah is Love." Thompson said Van de Walker had been in Iraq and was upset to learn that Hasan was Muslim.
A report filed with Killeen police on Aug. 16 indicates that Hasan's vehicle, a 2006 Honda Civic, had been scratched by an unknown object causing an estimated $1,000 worth of damage. The report indicates that Van de Walker, 30, was arrested on Oct. 21 and charged with criminal mischief. The matter has been referred for prosecution, according to the report."

"I'm teased around here for being a conservative christian. I'm not shooting up the place.""

How many of the last few (dozen) mass murderers in America who went on shooting sprees were Christians?
How many people in prison for violent offenses are Christian?
I don't say they did it because they're Christians. They did it because they're likely violent people, some of whom might have had a schitzoid break.

My heart and prayers go out for the victims and families affected by this vile piece of human waste. Initially I had said Hasan deserved to die for the murders he cowardly committed, but death I think would be too easy for this scumbag. Instead he should be placed within solitary confinement in as small a cell as possible with 23 hour lockdown a day for the rest of his useless life. Never again should he have a place within society.
