This includes all varieties of communication, both verbal and non-verbal. Honesty implies a lack of deceit. A statement can be strictly true and still be dishonest if the intention of the statement is to deceive its audience. Similarly, a falsehood can be spoken honestly if the speaker actually believes it to be true. Conversely, dishonesty can be defined simply as behavior that is performed with intent to deceive. Lying by commission, lying by omission, fraud, and plagiarism are all examples of this sort of behavior. Other examples can be doing one thing and telling the other, as if you are hiding something.
Honesty is typically considered virtuous behavior, and has strong positive connotations in most situations...

I was in a bar near the border years ago.

There was this young guy at the piano;
Someone said his name was billy joe
or something.
He started singing about us .
John at the bar, Paul the real-estate guy, the waitress,
and all the usual crowd.
He sang how we were a bunch of losers.
We force-fed him the tips from his jar.
I heard he became famous.
But I never heard he came back.-

I remember seeing some footage of a Billy Joel concert from the time before he became famous. It was raw emotion at it's best. The Stranger was one of the first albums I purchased. It is still the only Billy Joel album on which I ever spent money.

As I listen, I drift back in time to a marriage that went wrong.
I realize how dishonest we both were.
Ahhhhhh, the the ability to see the mistakes of the past in the songs we once used as messages.
Thanks my friend. The first time in a long time I've listened to that song without an acrimonious heart.
