PELOSI: Buy a $15,000 Policy or Go to Jail

Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail.  The  JCT letter   makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.

I would love to see a dedicated Democrat come on line and explain to us how this differs from Hitler's Germany and Stalin's Russia.

I would also remind all that when I don't pay and land in jail that I will be receiving free room and board, free medical care, in house guards, and better company than my Senator has in the US Senate.

Well shucks, that is what I came here to say. Let THEM pay $30,000 per year to care for us plus there's no point in paying the penalty. Sooner or later the proponents of Force will have to acknowledge that their well has run dry.

This WILL be challenged in court. Just how do they intend to enforce this anyway? Are they going to put homeless people in jail for not having money?

fta: the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income)

          income 600,000 * 2.5% = 15,000
          60,000 * 2.5% = 1,500
          0 * 2.5% = 0

LOL...Right. At least if they were in jail they'd be way better off than they would be with anything the GOP has to offer. What *do* Republicans have to offer, anyway? Let's see... Tort reform. That's it...Oh...and approaches which won't do anything to prevent Americans from being denied coverage for pre-existing conditions or losing their homes and having to file for bankruptcy to pay huge medical bills. Yep...Jail actually would be preferable to the GOP's "plan". ;-P
