This IS what we have come to. There is no possibility of one nation with people who have attitudes like this. There are, no doubt, some Democrats/Liberals on Propeller who will genuinely condemn this person's comments. Others will offer lip service condemnation and then continue their campaign of negativity against us.

I have come to the conclusion that the less interaction with those who do not share our core values and beliefs, the better, and I intend to conduct myself accordingly.
Be strong, my fellow Conservatives, be strong. And let us strengthen one another, especially in view of the horrible attack on our brave soldiers and the withering contemptuous response of this Democrat.-

As usual the extreme right-wing israel firsters try to create hatred and division amongst Americans in order to continue their parasitism on our country. Remember that their current campaign is directed from the top of the Israeli government (Netanyahu) and don't fall for the "hasbara" propaganda campaigns of those whose primary loyalty is NOT to America. If you are a real American, you will support removing the israel-first traitors from our government, politics and media.

We should be supporting real jews instead of instead of zionist monsters guilty of the robbing, killing, expulsion or putting in cncentration camps of over seven million christians and moslems. We should start by ending the activities in our country of israel-first supporters of terrorism.
How US tax breaks fund terrorist Israeli settlers
Israeli peace activists are planning to ratchet up their campaign against groups in the United States that raise money for settlers by highlighting how tax exemptions are helping to fund the expansion of illegal settlements in the West Bank.
Gush Shalom, a small peace group that advocates Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied territories, is preparing to send details to the US tax authorities questioning the charitable status of several organisations.
Adam Keller, a spokesman, said these operations’ tax-exempt status meant that “settlement expansion is effectively being subsidised out of the pockets of the US taxpayer and government”.
The campaign is designed to increase pressure on Barack Obama, the US president, to demand action from Israel on his repeated calls -- so far largely ignored -- to end settlement building. Last week, Israel announced plans to build 455 new homes in West Bank settlements and 500 apartments in East Jerusalem.... -

...In a related move, Gush Shalom is encouraging Palestinians who have suffered from settler violence to file lawsuits in the United States that would redefine the settlers’ fund-raising work as support for “terrorist activity”. ....
Reply
...Gush Shalom also hopes to increase pressure on the funding of organisations by encouraging civil litigation in the United States from Palestinian victims of settler violence in a bid to characterise the attacks as “terror activity”.
Court rulings would then be sought to shut down the settlers’ US fund-raising arms on the grounds that they support terrorism, in an echo of legal action by right-wing Jewish groups in the US against Muslim charities.
Two additional campaigns are mentioned in the memo.
In the coming months the group plans to highlight the links between the settlements and such large international Zionist organisations as the Jewish National Fund and the World Zionist Organisation.
Gush Shalom also suggests exposing the Israeli government’s support for US lobby groups, such as Stand With Us and the Israel Project, that are engaged in what it calls “propaganda” on behalf of the settlements.

Avoth - It is sad that you see the deaths of these honorable soldiers and health workers as an occasion to bash liberals. I am sure that if you poll our armed services, you will find Republicans and Democrats, liberals and conservatives, Protestants, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, maybe even a Buddhist or 2.
Reply
If a Protestant soldier dies, does that mean the Jews, Muslims, and Catholics do not mourn? If a liberal soldier dies, does that mean that YOU will not mourn?
The truth is that all Americans are mourning. Your post above is cruel and even macabre. You really need to look into yourself and ask what it is these soldiers died for. Did they die only for conservatives? Did they die only for neoconservatives? Did they die only for born again Christians? Did they die only for Republicans? Did they die only for Democrats?
They died for all of us.
That you use their honorable deaths as an occasion for political demagoguery is beyond contempt.

I could not say better than Avoth what needs to be said. We in this country would be well-advised to quit fighting amongst each other and start protecting each other. Do NOT depend on your politicians. Do NOT depend on your courts. Do NOT depend on the truth. Do not depend on the rule of law. Look to each other, and show some respect because that person just may be the one who will save you.
Reply
Can we do that? I am sad to say that I don't believe we can. The well has been so thoroughly poisoned that coming together would be difficult.I speak of myself as readily as I do of the next person. Both liberals and conservatives have been lied to for decades. Most conservatives have come to see that, but many liberals still cling to "party for party's sake". It would be great if some libs who do see the lies from their own side would talk with their lib friends who refuse to believe they've been lied to.
I do not mean to imply that it is libs who are the gulty parties - all of us are, some more than others, but no finger pointing here. We MUST find a coming together point.
Thanks Avoth, for your eloquent comment. I ditto it.-

Avoth, I'm sure you see why I said we probably can't come together as citizens and will be forever divided. Hyperbola was kind enough to offer some proof.

Some of these people on Propeller have a deep paranoia and are severely threatened by dogs that don't run with the pack. Ideas not shared by their friends are to be avoided at all costs, even if it costs them everything. Too bad.

There is a time to put aside political ideologies and this was clearly one of those times. Hopefully, the mindset of that individual can be enlightened to understand that having 13 US soldiers killed, and several others wounded while they were being prepared to serve the USA, be memorialized with a moment of silence, has nothing to do with liberal/conservative, democrat/republican. Rather, it has to do with human compassion. Sadly, I think the poster was just trying to be smug.

Your "compassion" for our soldiers (who do NOT belong to the israel-firsters) would be more believable if you and our corrupt elite stopped "using and throwing them away" for ugly anti-American ideology. "Pseudo-patriotism" at the cost of others has nothing to do with compassion or defending America.

War Is Sin
The crisis faced by combat veterans returning from war is not simply a profound struggle with trauma and alienation. It is often, for those who can slice through the suffering to self-awareness, an existential crisis. War exposes the lies we tell ourselves about ourselves. It rips open the hypocrisy of our religions and secular institutions. Those who return from war have learned something which is often incomprehensible to those who have stayed home. We are not a virtuous nation. God and fate have not blessed us above others. Victory is not assured. War is neither glorious nor noble. And we carry within us the capacity for evil we ascribe to those we fight.
Those who return to speak this truth, such as members of Iraq Veterans Against the War, are our contemporary prophets. But like all prophets they are condemned and ignored for their courage. They struggle, in a culture awash in lies, to tell what few have the fortitude to digest. They know that what we are taught in school, in worship, by the press, through the entertainment industry and at home, that the melding of the state's rhetoric with the rhetoric of religion, is empty and false.
The words these prophets speak are painful. We, as a nation, prefer to listen to those who speak from the patriotic script. We prefer to hear ourselves exalted. If veterans speak of terrible wounds visible and invisible, of lies told to make them kill, of evil committed in our name, we fill our ears with wax. Not our boys, we say, not them, bred in our homes, endowed with goodness and decency. For if it is easy for them to murder, what about us? And so it is simpler and more comfortable not to hear. We do not listen to the angry words that cascade forth from their lips, wishing only that they would calm down, be reasonable, get some help, and go away. We, the deformed, brand our prophets as madmen. We cast them into the desert. And this is why so many veterans are estranged and enraged. This is why so many succumb to suicide or addictions..... -

...The young soldiers and Marines do not plan or organize the war. They do not seek to justify it or explain its causes. They are taught to believe. The symbols of the nation and religion are interwoven. The will of God becomes the will of the nation. This trust is forever shattered for many in war. Soldiers in combat see the myth used to send them to war implode. They see that war is not clean or neat or noble, but venal and frightening. They see into war's essence, which is death.
Reply
War is always about betrayal. It is about betrayal of the young by the old, of cynics by idealists, and of soldiers and Marines by politicians. Society's institutions, including our religious institutions, which mold us into compliant citizens, are unmasked. This betrayal is so deep that many never find their way back to faith in the nation or in any god. They nurse a self-destructive anger and resentment, understandable and justified, but also crippling. Ask a combat veteran struggling to piece his or her life together about God and watch the raw vitriol and pain pour out. They have seen into the corrupt heart of America, into the emptiness of its most sacred institutions, into our staggering hypocrisy, and those of us who refuse to heed their words become complicit in the evil they denounce.

" innocent people died in a place that they should have been safe" This happens every day in case you didn't realize, many time at the hand of the very troops Americans like to thank for their "Freedom". American patriotism is so boring. Life is precious to everyone, people die every day from stupid accidents or mindless violence. Does the fact that they were military mean any Tom, Dick, or Harry can use their deaths for their stupid cause?

Apparently this individual has never experienced combat or lost a loved one or a close friend to either combat or acts of 'mindless violence'.
Again, unbelievable and without any redeeming merit to speak of."
--So, in keeping with your line of reasoning...When you're slamming health care reform over and over here, how often would you say you you put yourself in the shoes of someone who's had to file for bankruptcy because of medical bills related to a chronic illness or serious accident? I'm just curious as to how often you practice what you preach...

There were wonderful postings yesterday on propeller,
Reply
from liberals and conservatives,
expressing horror and serious concern for a tragedy;
speaking words that shared a common American heartbeat.
And there were two diferent postings.
One called Obama a media wh*re, for 'jumping in
front of the cameras' to talk about the tragedy.
The other thread shouted 'It happened on Obama's watch!'
Avoth propped both.
The willing political prostitution of a tragedy is
the mark of someone who believes they are
the master of the values they affirm;
- not the servant. -

I agree that some things should transcend party affiliation and political ideology in the interest of the greater good and simply doing the right thing, but for someone who makes it their sole focus to divide and incite those around him to make this plea is beyond hypocritical. I don't know of anyone who doesn't honor or mourn those at Fort Hood. The thing is, I wouldn't even think to ask a person's party affiliation or political ideology when expressing their condolences. I'm not sure why ANYONE would. This is one of those situations that, as a compassionate human being, you react and mourn the tragedy. It's offensive that anyone would try and score a political point by exploiting it...either by mocking it or by attempting to "expose and scold" a whole political party based on the actions of one idiot on a social networking site. -

The soldiers who died were being prepared to be deployed - does any sane person think that they would have asked themselves "am I protecting a liberal or a con "? before putting themselves in harms' way. They were Americans doing what Americans do - looking out for all of us - Avoth & Tasine (who have been strangely silent in the face of the reaction to their comments are doing what America's enemies are doing trying to set us against ourselves - they are the the traitors in the woodpile

Can't you all find any real news sources to post articles from? Is that why you all post from nothing but personal blogs and Facebook opinion threads, then you post them here on Propeller as News, therefore fact?????? You know Tom will let you all get away with it too, because he's too busy on other sites to pay any real attention to what's going on here. You all are a disgusting bunch!
