America Hemorrhages Jobs As Dems Fiddle With Health Care - Jobs a low priority for Democrats »
Posted By pc25 1 week, 5 days ago in Political OpinionAmericans are angry with Washington as much for what it isn't doing as what it is.
What it isn't doing the most is paying attention to the still-raging economic disaster.
Last week's job numbers show unemployment nationally bumping past 10 percent and surpassing 15 percent in Michigan. Unemployment keeps climbing, even though President Barack Obama and Congress nine months ago committed $787 billion to creating jobs.
Since then, neither the White House nor Congress has spent a minute honestly analyzing whether the stimulus program is accomplishing its goal, and if not, what other approaches might work.

Democrat leaders, ramming bills down our throats, while Americans go without jobs. And while Americans are going without jobs, Obama and friends continue the open house parties, the golf games, the luaus on the White House lawn, the salsa dancing, the hulu-hooping, the Superbowl party, the breathless plane trips to dinner on a whim, and the steak dinners with movie stars in 90210.

Whatever you may think about conservatives, you always know where they stand. And whether it's defending America or reigning in government, conservatives stand for what they believe is right, even if it is unpopular. Liberals, on the other hand, stand for doing what is expedient, usually after holding a finger to the wind. That's why if we're looking for genuine leadership, we will always be better off with conservatives at the helm. Always.-

from a conservative's standpoint, why is it government's role to find jobs for people? it thought that conservatives wanted government out of the business sector, not in it.
Reply
sounds like there's an inherent contradiction there.
i guess we really DON'T know where 'conservatives' stand on this particular issue
would you prefer that the government build a giant government run jobs program?
that hardly sounds like conservatism to me.
it's business' job to hire whomever they need, not to provide a giuant social engineering program, from a conservative's point of view.
this is a very amusing thread.
stop whining. -

But while the economy tops every list of public concerns, job creation is not the hot topic in Washington.
In fact, Democratic leaders, obsessed with reworking America, have proved more than willing to sacrifice precious jobs during the worst economic climate in a half-century.
Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., rammed an energy-rationing bill through her Senate Environment and Public Works Committee last week without a single Republican member in the room.
The bill would greatly limit America's ability to produce the energy it needs to fuel an economic rebound. In other words, it's a job killer. -

"If you examine where the "job" money has gone - to raises, and government agencies close to the DC area."

Actually, the American reinvestment and recovery act (ARRA) has produced a great many jobs in my area. As I drive down I-26 and I-40 through western NC, I see signs all over the place about how the current road improvements are being funded by the ARRA. Each one of these jobs required an enhanced workforce.
Reply
So you may want to reexamine where the "job" money went. I think you're making assumptions that aren't actually supported by fact. My area can't be the ONLY area where the ARRA is being seen to produce jobs and improvements.

In Ayn Rand’s libertarian epic “Atlas Shrugged,” Galt, an inventor disgusted by creeping American collectivism, leads the country’s capitalists on a retributive strike. “We have granted you everything you demanded of us, we who had always been the givers, but have only now understood it,” Galt lectures the “looters” and “moochers” who make up the populace. “We have no demands to present you, no terms to bargain about, no compromise to reach. You have nothing to offer us. We do not need you.”

We are no longer the engine that drives the economy. It's not only unskilled labor that can now be had, for cheap, in the world: there are plenty of highly-educated workers available; and you don't have to go abroad for that labor, either: there are plenty of "offshore resources" who work onshore much of the time. -

Why would any entrepreneur open a business in the current environment? He knows that the huge deficits that the government is running will eventually be paid - by him - either in taxes or inflation.
Reply
The Democrats care more about their liberal agenda than the economic health of the country. Indeed, the worse economic conditions get, the more clients they get for big government services.-

I agree. I was going to buy a local restaurant for my daughters but the way things are going with the economy and this "liberal agenda" there is no way I would consider it. -

the kicker is that after spending a trillion on the stimulus and realizing that it was a bust Obama makes the speech announcing making it easier for both small and start up businesses to obtain loans through the SBA. All of a sudden small business must create jobs. I thought the purpose of the stimulus was to keep unemployment at around 7.5% -

steph. wasn't it Dumya who increased big government the most under the Homeland Security guise?
Reply
Hey, at least the Dems are trying to make government work without any help from repugs - no more Katrina debacles, Arab port deals or preemptive wars with illegal torture! And, Barack is going after the real perpetrators of 911 while Dumya said "it doesn't matter if we got OBL or not"! All this and trying to recover from the second greatest Depression that Dumya and the repug Congress gave us!

And don't forget if the democrats fiddle fart around, and pass all of his pet wishes they will get to sit on Obamas lap. Can't you just see,and hear Nancy telling her grand children, president Obama finally cut America down to size, and granny stood shoulder to shoulder with him.Slowly but surely we purged the profit motive, that got rid of many non union workers, then we in one fell swoop we turned individuals into herds,we turned freedom, and liberty into a wishy-washy state of dependency. We stopped the individual from striking out on his own to make a better life for his familey. We knew what their needs were much better than they did.

Cons? Thousands of Americans with and without health insurance are losing their lives daily for want of adequate health care. Thousands more are losing their homes and being forced to file for bankruptcy every day. We know Bush told you that the only way a President can keep you safe is by borrowing trillions of dollars so you can be a cheerleader for illegal wars you don't have the guts to fight in but the fact is, thousands of Americans dying daily is kind of a bigger crisis than people losing their jobs. Something tells me that people who may be out of work for a while are probably grateful that they will get to live another day to look for another job. Also, you cons are absolutely deranged, if you think we don't know what you're up to. ;-P

No politician has the stomach to tell China where to stick it. That's the problem. Unless trade takes center stage immediately, the end of the employer based health insurance model will surely become extinct unless trade policies are updated to provide for a level playing field.

Good argument and I think I have a good answer to that. No politician wants to tell China (or substitute china with another cheap labour country) is because the politicians follow their rich bosses. The rich bosses tells their political puppets that capitalism is good, de-regulation is good, globalisation is good.

Just trying to get the truth out there. This nation might crash, and burn, but I want the simple minded who voted for this sad sack to know we won't go quietly.God had a reason to raise this country up,and is depending on the good citizens to stand in the gap,and stop this regime of radical misfits from taking it down.

because more jobs were lost during the ten months preceeding obama than in the ten months after obama took over.
so, according to logic of pc25 and detnews (whatever the frak that is) that means the GOP obviously didn't care about jobs.
right?
RIGHT?
