from a conservative's standpoint, why is it government's role to find jobs for people? it thought that conservatives wanted government out of the business sector, not in it.

sounds like there's an inherent contradiction there.

i guess we really DON'T know where 'conservatives' stand on this particular issue

would you prefer that the government build a giant government run jobs program?

that hardly sounds like conservatism to me.

it's business' job to hire whomever they need, not to provide a giuant social engineering program, from a conservative's point of view.

this is a very amusing thread.

    stop whining.

I am sure the 17% under/unemployed are rolling on the floor. How about addressing the point of the article. WHERE ARE THE JOBS.......It was financial Armageddon if the stimulus was not passed. Unemployment was supposed to remaing steady at 8%

      did you see this

$25 billion “stimulus” program produces 0 jobs

      http://hotair.com/archives/2009/11/09/25-billion-s...

When Nancy Pelosi pushed Porkulus through on a party-line vote in the House and Harry Reid could only get three Republicans in the Senate, the GOP opposed the bill because it wouldn’t stimulate a nymphomaniac stripper on a Friday night. The bill almost entirely consisted of nothing more than a laundry list of Democratic pork and progressive wish lists that had been circulating around Capitol Hill for years. The Washington Post highlights one of the most prominent of the Porkulus programs, a $25 billion “energy efficiency” program that proves the point:

what is amusing is your reply. Typical for an OBAMITE DROID

the only thing more amusing are the dolts who propped you comment.

really, hypocrite? where are the jobs?

why don't you ask the companies who ship them off overseas.

why do you expect the governemnt to hold your 'conservative' hand?

you're right. it's not amusing, but it would be if you lot weren't busy whining about the government doing something you ostensibly don't believe the government should be doing.

go start a business pc, and then hire people. that's how it works. once things go bad in the business, because 'conservative' policies have created boom and bust cycles, then make sure that your employees come first. when things go well in the business, make sure your employees are well taken care of, instead of treating them like commodities.

buy a bank, pc, and get it to loan out the money that should be "trickling" down (a stupid conservative fallacy)

be an entrepreneur, pc, and build infrastructure here in the states that will bring back jobs.

and you call yourself a conservative. ha!

the sole purpose of the stimulus was to keep the unemployment at 7.5 to 8%

          your response is laughable........

          http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/11/us/politics/11ra...

WASHINGTON — One day after the nation’s unemployment rate was reported to be at a 16-year high, President-elect Barack Obama on Saturday again raised the estimate of how many jobs would result from his economic recovery plan, saying it would create or save three million to four million, nearly 90 percent of them in the private sector.

Hey Obama's own word.......the stimulus will save or create jobs otherwise what is the point of the stimulus..............

Yes and remember that the last time that unemployment was this high was in the third year of the conservative hero's presidency. Good old Ronald Reagan.

I think it is a simple question:

"why is it government's role to find jobs for people?"

You could simply answer it and then move on to the individual issues of the stimulus.

Another question worth asking is whether it is the government's job to bail out companies?

Have you voted for individuals that have run for president that have signed or voted for such legislation?

the stimulus was a bunch of pork dealt out to every special interest group.
It was every old dusty bill and special interest project taken off of the dusty shelves of every retread, regurgitated Dem who found his way into the Obama administration

              http://www.barackobama.com/issues/economy/

Get the economy back on track:

President Obama signed legislation to jumpstart our economy, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, less than a month after his inauguration. The plan will save or create 3.5 million new jobs, make critical investments in our infrastructure and give 95 percent of working Americans a tax cut.

Fight the housing and financial crises:

A new housing program has stabilized the market, preventing more foreclosures and helping millions more re-finance at historically low mortgage rates. The Administration is also moving forward with its plans to get credit flowing again to businesses and families, and to reform our regulatory system so we have a set of 21st century rules to match 21st century financial markets.

he was too bust sending e mails asking for more money from the left after the House passed the bill........

now that the stimulus is a failure OHHHHH NOOO THATS NOT WHAT OBAMA SAID..........

What you are not stating is how the economy got off track. The cause and prevention is many times more important than attempting to find or procure a cure.

you never responded, pc. it's obviously more important to you to be involved in bashing obama than it is to be consistent with your own purported ideology.

                  you're a republican. you're no conservative.

so, why do you think the government should find anyone a job?

It wouldn't matter if the Government found everyone jobs. They would be saying then that that is not the governments job.

And is it not the Republican/conservative mantra that tax cuts for the rich will increase investments that in turn create jobs? What happened to that idea? Where are the jobs from Bush's tax cuts.

The government could remove some of the restrictions they have placed on companies here, to help it be more profitable to do business here instead of sending it overseas. Then the jobs would come back.

Actually deathray, that is a very good point. If America is supposed to be all about the free enterprise system and government has no business ever mixing in it, then it is a complete contradiction to expect government to secure jobs for Americans. Free enterprise is supposed to take care of that.

Of course, that's a ridiculous stance, but it is the logical stance if conservatives would remain conservative where jobs are concerned. You can't really have it both ways. Either the government is there to help the people through difficult times and maintain a certain standard of living, or it is there merely to maintain order and protect us from our enemies. Ultimately, as threads like this prove, the former is what is expected across the board, even as conservatives attempt to vilify every effort made to accomplish it. It is curious to see the double standard being embraced depending on which direction the wind is blowing though.
