With me...all the senses combine to get an image in memory...and I feel, everyone does...or should.

They mention in the article about the first time that we smell a new smell and how it has an effect on us with maybe a memory, this brings to mind a question of when we do first smell a new smell. Over our lives we constantly are running into new smells but are we aware of them when we do encounter a new smell and do we form a mental picture if we are not aware that it is a new smell.
The reason I mention this has to do with the smell of rain on a cold day in the spring, by the time I was twelve I am sure that I had smelled this smell many times and yet when I smell it today my memory does not go back to the first time I smelt it but the first time that I was truly aware of the smell. The day I refer to was a day when I was told that one of my classmates had drowned by slipping into the river, and being upset I went for a walk and for the first time I noticed the smell of rain on a spring day.

These studies were done years ago in the US. How come no links and Kudos to those scientists?
