Did Obama Just Convict the Suspected Fort Hood Shooter? | 44 | washingtonpost.com »
Posted By Tasine 3 weeks, 1 day ago in Political OpinionDid the president, speaking directly about the man suspected in the killings, prejudice any jury that might be called to hear the case? At the least, he appeared to fall afoul of a lesson that every journalism student -- and law student -- learns early: The safest way to avoid yourself some trouble is to couch such a flat assertion of guilt.

President's statement was "This past Thursday, on a clear Texas afternoon, an Army psychiatrist walked into the Soldier Readiness Processing Center, and began shooting his fellow soldiers."

I believe that Obama didn't convict Hasan. I believe he poisoned the jury pool and I worry that if Hasan lives and is tried, case will be dismissed because of this very thing.-

ANYTHING Obama does, you criticize, regardless of WHAT it is!!
If Obama had used the word "alleged", you would say that he was denying that
Hasan did anything and that he is 'defending' Muslims!
You and your ilk continue to exceed the heights of ABSURDITY with your continual attempts to find fault with everything Obama says or does.
Just admit your blind hatred of Obama instead of these 'closet' attacks that are almost ALWAYS without any merit. -

If this gains any traction in the MSM, most possibly because of the Prof Gates snafu, it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

The 0 Man, to my knowledge, did not mention the shooter by name. Yet he did state that the shooter was an Army psychiatrist ,which is true, that the shooting happened at a Soldier Readiness Processing Center, which is true, and began shooting his fellow soldiers, again true. Again, to my knowledge no names mentioned. Is this a prejudicial comment to the guilt or innocence of the shooter. Maybe, maybe not. That decision will be up to the legal system to 'figure out'.
However, the 'accused', in our real legal system, ie not the court of public opinion and irregardless of who voices an opinion , is 'assumed to be innocent until proven guilty'. -

And you just KNOW that if he'd have said "alleged" he would have been attacked full force by his detractors for minimizing or deflecting the man's responsibility in the crime.

This faux outrage over Obama's statement is proof positive that these people will attack him no matter WHAT he says or does, no matter which position he takes, no matter WHAT..they will find a way to make him wrong.
The only positive I see coming from all this rhetoric is that the thinking conservatives are beginning to take notice of the radical takeover that is happening. That is why NY-23 went Democrat for the first time in 159 years on Tuesday. The REAL conservatives, the REAL Republicans don't want the fringe representing them. If ever there was a time for a third party, it's now. -

the jury will convict on the basis of the evidence, not the lack of the word

Not that hasan isn't guilty, but any first year lawyer assigned to defend this POS, should he live to stand trial, will use the address from obie to have the case thrown out, due to the fact he can't get a decent jury pool. It is called practicing law. That is what lawyers do.
obie siad what he said, and it is all true. The problem is that obie isn't a regular joe citizen, he is the President of the United States of America. I will let that sink in for a minute
Because of his status, when he addresses the entire nation and publicly states, as fact, that this hasan went in and killed 13 people and wounded 30 more, he has contaminated a jury pool that stretches coast to coast, border to border. The clout comes with the title. Too bad he doesn't know what to say and when to say it...

Just when you think you've heard it all...that the fake opposition to Obama couldn't become any more outrageous...you see this.

Tell me.......has anyone ever used to word "alleged" when referring to anyone connected to the 9/11 tragedy? Did Bush used the term "alleged" when naming bin Laden as the mastermind? In fact, has anyone in this position of a mass shooting, terrorist style, ever been afforded that luxury by the sitting President? I don't believe I EVER remember Bush saying, "the alleged terrorist bin Laden" in ANY statement he ever made even though he's never stood trial and therefore should even STILL be granted that "alleged" status. How many outraged conservatives (or non-conservatives) have there been in response to this supposed miscarriage of justice? Or are we finally going to admit that this "outrage" is only present when Obama is the recipient?
Now.....in a court of law, everyone is "alleged" until a verdict is named. To say that Obama committed some great sin because he didn't use the term "alleged" when referring to the man who was shot down at the scene while committing the act of terrorism against those at Ft. Hood is just over the top. Had he been picked up days (or even hours) later, off the scene, I might see the criticism as valid. But this is the biggest example of stretching in order to find fault with Obama that I have seen since attacking him for winning an international peace prize. To say that some will find fault no matter what is becoming an understatement. You all have outdone yourselves....you must be so proud.-

Hmmmm, could it be that bin laden sent videos throughout the world claiming responsibility? Just a thought. I am still trying to find hasan's video, letter, or even his references that he did it. -

Well, I see that the dem talking points went out fairly early this morning or immediately following the vote. The talking point today is: those lying conservatives will attack Obama for anything, just waiting to pounce, etc. This then will (Dem thinking) lead to our being able to negate everything a conservative says as we have put their agenda on display.
Reply
Flash! That won't work anymore. You're going to have to do better than that for the Dem playbook to succeed, and succeed it MUST so that Soros will keep on giving millions to the Dems to destroy the conservatives. -
