I worked out of an office that was full of pretty girls, and some down right beautiful women.I like to think I was smart enough to know what was allowable. Most people male/female are not offended by words of adoration when they know you,I would never call a stranger, sugar babe,or girlfriend, but people who know me expect it.

It really depends on the part of the country as to what is considered derogatory, sexist, acceptable and so on. Here, "babe" is used by female workers to male workers and vice-versa. The most famous and most used here is "dawlin" (darling for the rest of you), sweetheart (pronounced sweethawt here), in N'awlins and is the best way to get a smile.
