What about libertarians who were for parts of it but considered other parts to be extremely problematic? Did they do the wrong thing by opposing it as it stood and pressing for changes?

I gave you a pos on that comment - I'm honestly not sure why anyone is giving you negative ratings, but oh well - because I think it's a serious question. Who knows what the best answer to that is, but I think voting it down rather than working to fix it by using the process is wrong. Amendments can be attached, etc, so it shouldn't need to come to a down vote just because the entire bill isn't perfect. Considering that nothing is every going to be perfect, it seems like working to fix it within the process would make the most sense. This is just the first vote. There will be changes made in the senate that will then need to be re-approved in the House, where further changes could be made to bring it more in line with the Libertarian thinking...but by voting "no" that shuts it down. I think the opposite would be better.

And the debate has been going on since at least July. Everyone has had a chance to express his or her ideas on what the bill should contain. It wasn't that different from H.R. 3200, which has been publicly available since July. Even the final bill (which, trust me on this--everyone who wanted to know what would be in it did before it passed out of committee--nothing was done in secret) could have been read in its entirety by anyone who cared--it's been publicly available for two weeks. If you can't read 150 pages of legislation each day, you shouldn't be a congressman.)

But there's no point in delaying health reform further. What was passed was better than the status quo. Even so, compromises will be made with the Senate, weakening it further.

Because they neg anything that differs even 1 percent with what they believe. it comes from years and years of being close-minded.
