Ill say it this way...what happens when Oboma recognizes their sovernty; is Palistine is still controlled by a border. Why would the uS control their borders?

Sovereignty is the quality of having supreme, independent authority over a territory.
Being free from external control is rare in this world...and due largely to the uS. -

Really. I'd like to see the map that Obama endorsed as Palestine. I bet it looks strangely like this...http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=...
Ooops. Sorry. I did not intend to send Hyperbola into an orgiastic frenzy.

All journeys begin with a single step.

If this story is true it is hard to say how it will work in the long run, but maybe the opening of a new door will hopefully bring peace to the region. I don't know about everyone else but I would love to see hostilities in this area cease. Even with the recognizing of a Palestinian State it would only be a starting point and there will likely be years of negotiations on borders. Peace and change take time but without a starting point there never is any progress.-

The "journey" to destroy the State of Israel and the extermination of the Jewish people began long ago. The establishment of a state where no Jew will be permitted to live and where it's a crime punishable by death to sell land to a Jew, is not the first step. -

rancher, my question is from which nation will land be confiscated to provide a state of Palestine. If this ever happens, it will be history made as the Palestinians have never had a nation (how does one have an independent "state" ? Wouldn't that have to be a "nation". Which nation will be foreced to cede land for such?

Here is an example of the type of justice one can expect to receive in a Palestinian state:

I know many liberals are in favor of establishing a state where no Jew will be permitted to live and where it is a crime, punishable by death, to sell land to a Jew. Not an Israeli, mind you, but a Jew.
The establishment of a Palestinian state will not bring peace to the Middle East. It will only bring additional war. I do not believe Liberals are so stupid as not to realize this. Is it possible that what the liberals truly want is war against the Jews? -

If it were true it would be a monumental milestone in world peace. Establishing a Palestinian state and ending the Israeli occupation would go along way toward peace and understanding between Muslims and the west and likely have a tremendous effect on reducing the number of people who are sympathetic to Islamic terrorist organizations.

Did President Bush ever catch bin Laden? You remember him don't you? The guy who was responsible for the attacks on 9-11-01 that killed nearly 3000? Who's action sparked two invasions and cost the lives of tens of thousands.
Reply
Nice of you to keep interchanging the two. You know, one guy kill thousands of Americans and the other was elected President by nearly 67 million Americans. But to an anti-America(as long as Barack Obama is President) guy like yourself, that they're interchangable is no suprise at all. -

I believe there has never peen peace in the ME, and I firmly believe there will NEVER be peace there. I believe as long as barbarians run countries, there will be hostilities. There is not one thing you, I, or Obama can do that will change that.

If an examination of Israeli laws regarding property rights would really make a difference to anyone on this thread, there's a lot of information here: (I certainly wouldn't want to property owner there if I had an Arab name; it doesn't look like a level playing field to me)

The best solution to the Jerusalem issue would be to declare it an international city, open to all three religions who consider it sacred, and keep the administrative capitol of Israel elsewhere. That will never happen, because no one in this dispute is willing to give an inch. They all have their Book to justify their positions of course, but in the real world compromises would have to be made. What a shame.-

Before the Israelis retook their city and made it open to all three religions who consider it sacred, the Jordanians had control of half of it. They denied access to Jews, used Jewish headstones to line the pathways to their latrines, and used to shoot at Jews trying to get a glimpse of the Western Wall of the Temple, one of their most holy sites.
At that time, no one was concerned about declaring Jerusalem an international city open to all three religions who consider it sacred. That concern only began when the Jews took control.
Do you agree that your current proposal be weighed in light of these historical facts? -

Actually primusdawg, they don't all have the book. Jerusalem isn't mentioned once in the Quran. Nor did Mohammed ever enter Jerusalem except in a dream (Most Muslim scholars don't really believe the story of Al-Burka, the horse with the head of a woman, wings of an eagle and tail of a peacock on which Mohammed ascended to heaven). Jerusalem on the other hand was a Jewish city according to Ottoman and British censuses until 1948 when the Jordanians took the city in battle and expelled all of the Jews. No Jew was allowed to live, pray or even enter the holy city until Israel won it back in 1967. Jerusalem and Hebron were both predominately Jewish cities before 1948. Just because the Muslims have 2 mosques on the Temple Mount doesn't give them any sovereignty to the city. They have Mecca and Medina and 54 other Muslim dominated countries to call their own. How much more do you think they are entitled to without giving anything back in return?

although the Palestinians have never had a sovereign nation, they have existed as a people for just as long as the Hebrews (the proper ethnic name for the tribes that founded Judaism).
Reply
The Jordan value first became mapped as "Palestine" by the Romans after they exiled the Hebrews (the diaspora) following the destruction of the second temple in response to yet another rebellion. (interesting aside, the term zealot first came into existance at this time as the name taken by one of the Hebrew "freedom fighter" groups)
This territory remained conquered thru the several different ages until the British mandate. The British made agreements with both sides to give them the land for help with WW2, thus exasperating the situation. They did not leave, however, until pressured to do so by Palestinian and Jewish "freedom fighters". (working at the same time, not together)
in 1948, the UN turned the British Owned Palestinian Mandate (what the British hadn't already turned into Jordan) into Israel, Palestine, and the city-state of Jerusalem. Palestine was lost in the ensuing war between the Arabs and Israel, in which Egypt took Gaza, and Jordan took the west bank and Jerusalem and renamed itself Trans-Jordan.
in the following wars both sides have committed horrible atrocities against the other in the name of God and Country.
none of this changes the fact that the Palestinians and Jews both, like all people, have a right to self rule.
and every time the get anywhere in the neighborhood of peace... the orthodoxy on both sides does whatever they can think of to sabotage it because they both believe that their god wants them to.
and how does any rational argument get around that sort of crazy? -

Ha,ha,ha, Obama is giving God a back-handed slap, but in the end we will see who gets the last laugh. Obama thinks he is smart but he is putting this country at great risk. God says no man must divide his country, Israel. Jerusalem is HIS city!! Warning people: a major disaster is going to hit this country in the Midwest because of Obama's arrogance!! Thinking we are smart, we have turned into fools. Look who we've elected. God's fury is going to hit us hard!!

I am all for recognizing a palestinian state.
just as I am all for recognizing israel as a legitmate state that has a right to defend itself.
both the jewish and palestinian people deserve to live long and prosper.
and of course there are many many nuances not covered my statements, which I am aware of. so no need to "fill me in" on all the facts you might have concerning the evil/goodness of one side vs. the evil/goodness of the other side.
I'm talking about the people here. not the govts.
