Just like the current H1N1 swine flu virus sweeping the globe, the 1918 Spanish flu was a virus strain of subtype H1N1. Just like the current H1N1 swine flu virus, most of the victims of the Spanish flu were healthy young adults. Now news has come out that the patients that are dying in Ukraine are experiencing the total destruction of their lungs - just like the 1918 Spanish flu.
