Tea Partiers' New Hero: Ex-KGB Agent Who Thinks U.S. Will Collapse Next Year »
Posted By ameliog 1 week, 5 days ago in Political NewsFor more than a decade Dr. Igor Panarin, a Russian academic, has been predicting that sometime around 2010 the United States will collapse, splintering into separate states, some of them controlled by foreign powers. Outside of Russia, no one's put much stock in his crackpot and stereotype-based theories - until now, that is. Who are the newest members of the Igor Panarin fan club? Bill Ayers is not a terrorist. Rev. Wright is neither a racist not America hating. Obama did not apoligize for our greatness in the passed, specifically he recognized our faults, as well as the worlds faults, and challenge both the US and the world to do better.

I read about this guy and his predictions about a year ago, give or take. It made for some interesting discussions amongst the local poli sci academia. I will say that, while the claims seem to be over the top, I don't know that we should dismiss such analysis as completely impossible theory either. To think nothing like this is even possible isn't a healthy reaction, I don't believe. After all, America is still in its infancy comparatively speaking to the rest of the world. Who knows what could happen in the future, especially with how divided we've become in recent years.

The article I first read was this one from the Wall Street Journal:

As it's stated in the Wall Street Journal article, People like him have forecast similar cataclysms before, he says, and been right. He cites French political scientist Emmanuel Todd. Mr. Todd is famous for having rightly forecast the demise of the Soviet Union -- 15 years beforehand. "When he forecast the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1976, people laughed at him," says Prof. Panarin.
