When will we hold PEOPLE accountable for their crimes and not a cold piece of metal?

There have been over 2600 deaths caused by drunk driving so far in 2009. So, we blame the love of cars for that, not the drunk driver? Maybe we need to blame Budweiser and other alcohol manufacturing companies!
There have been over 1200 suicides from the Golden Gate Bridge. So, we blame the bridge for these deaths?
Every year, close to 30000 deaths in the United States are caused by household accidents. We blame the house for these deaths?
A gun is an inert piece of metal. A gun is not a threat, the person not using it properly, or not storing it properly is the threat.
A gun did not cause the death of one soldier at Ft. Hood. The shooter did.
Me thinks Mayor Daley is an hysterical, clueless schmuck.-

What your metaphor fails to take account of is the fact that guns are only made to kill. That is their sole purpose. The other things that you mentioned like cars and houses have other uses other than killing. I will never understand why we all feel the need to shoot each other. There are stories every day in our papers about someone being shot at a party. Guns are glorified at every opportunity and kids can't wait to shoot them. Then people die.

Look at Canada. Look at England. Look at other countries and see the difference in gun deaths.

Would you also suggest that unwanted pregnancies can be explained by the same logic?
Or have any other parallels with inertia?
The operative noun in Mayor Daley's statement is LOVE, not guns.
Your argument ranks amongst the most bogus, even from the illogical right. -

Guns were designed for one thing....to kill. The NRA and it's rabid defense of guns has a saying, "Guns don't kill people, people kill people". That's pure

BS. The person who pulled the trigger is responsible for the death of that person, BUT, The gun killed them. -

allowing an assault weapon to be purchased in this country without a background check that is done daily at those gun shows only invalidates your position..... letting those with a propensity for evil have the firepower to impact more! How about where most of the weapomry for the mexican drug lords comes from - the USA, as a further example!

Of all the ways you mention death can occur (drunk driving, jumping from bridges, household accidents, and hand-held guns), only one of those inanimate objects was specifically designed to kill another human being...the hand gun.
Reply
Cars were designed for transportation, bridges, also for transportation, and houses (and we'll include apartments/condos, etc as well), where over 90% of Americans live full-time, were designed to put a roof over our heads, to protect us from the elements, basically.
Yes, the person shooting the gun should be held responsible in all cases, I'll agree with you there. And hold drunk drivers responsible for their deaths and the deaths of others, as well as those who jump from bridges. Maybe even blame some people who have accidents in their homes.
A gun is nothing more than metal, that's true...the same as a car, a bridge, or parts of a home, but because it was designed by humans to kill other humans, it's a weapon of violence, and therefore not in the same class as the others at all.

The Mayor is using a straw-man argument that conveniently provides him with an opportunity to politicize the terrorist attack as part and parcel with America’s love of guns.
Mayor Daley, and other politicians, like to blame gun violence on the guns themselves because that is so much easier than admitting any inconvenient (politically incorrect) truths which might be revealed if they were to place blame where it belongs.

Actually he is just reacting this way because there has been a rash of unnecessary deaths from gun violence in Chicago. The South and West sides have at least 10 gun deaths a week. He must react this way to show compassion for the people of this city.

OMG, what sweet precious PC BS from a politician looking for votes.

Well ok, it is all a 'love of guns fault' now.
Now this was done on a military base where they have guns; big guns, little guns, medium size guns, machine guns, Tank guns, helicopter guns....... it would seem that for some odd reason the military has a love of guns. so does this mean that the military's preoccupation with guns caused the gunman to go bonkers and start shooting his fellow troops who, by the way, did not have guns..... Hummmm.... The cops did though.. I'm wondering who will condemn them for loving guns to the point they had to draw and shot at and hit a shooter that was killing people with a gun.

So it is assumed that all gun owners will turn into serial killers merely because they happened to own guns according to this mayor. Oh brother! Is this guy dense, & out of touch!

So what does he want? Gun control in a military base?

I wonder what his reaction would had been if he had blown himself up? Would it be because of our love for TNT? The man is a killer. Killer of American soldiers and the reason for his crime from the facts that are comming out is his Muslim beliefs.

When a person takes any kind of weapon and starts killing innocent people, I think the punishment should be the same, regardless what his motivations, no matter his philosophy, no matter his religion, no matter his connections.
Reply
These things are useful to know so they can be checked out, but I fail to see a use for them in a murder trial. I feel sure the victims would not be a lot happier had they been killed because the killer loved them and wanted to put them out of their misery. -

Keep track of these loonatics and Vote these people OUT! Simple as that. The guy was a muslim radical in a US uniform. He accomplished his mission of martyrdom according to his beliefs. He chose to do it with a gun, simply a weapon of choice. He could have chosen to bomb. Daly, you and similar thinking people like you are a danger to this country.

Now if we were to think as most Conservatives do, then we would have to ask all of them to leave the country because of what Timothy McVeigh did, and we'd have to ask all evangelicals to do the same because of what Jim Jones did. Thank God for intelligence.

Timothy McVeigh acted upon the same sympathy for Saddam Hussein that the UN, Europe, and America's liberals had for him. Jim Jones acted upon the same hatred for Christianity that any liberal possesses. (Not that all do, but nearly all hatred for Christianity in America comes from the liberal side of the socio-political spectrum.)

But then, you don't think like most conservatives do, do you?

From what I can discern, it was the PC, moral coward, islamofa-shst lovin.. crazy Jimma Caata who is responsible for "disarming" the US military personnel, who would have, and should have, been armed on a federal military installation.

imo, the little Libtard Ingrates among us do not deserve our military Troops' self-sacrificing protections, from the infiltrated retrograde "throat-cutters".. and never say "never"..
