Greek Orthodox Priest Attacked By Marine Reservist In Anti-Muslim Hysteria »
Posted By TimALoftis 1 week, 3 days ago in Religiont's not for nothing that General George Casey warned against an anti-Muslim backlash in the wake of the Fort Hood massacre. But a whole slew of childlike nimrods, spurred to action by Casey vowing that it would be "a shame if our diversity became a casualty," have taken the stage to decry such concerns as "political correctness." Michelle Malkin complained that this was worshiping "the false god of diversity." Pat Robertson demanded that Muslims be treated as "members of some fascist group." So much good sense, being made! And so, naturally, the backlash Casey warned of has now expanded to include Greek Orthodox priests.
Via Think Progress:
Alexios Marakis, a Greek Orthodox priest visiting the U.S., got lost in Tampa and tried to stop and ask directions from Marine reservist Jasen D. Bruce. But instead of offering help, "Bruce struck the priest on the head with a tire iron." The reservist believed Marakis, who spoke limited English, was an Arab terrorist. Bruce chased the priest for three blocks, "and even called 911 to say that an Arabic man tried to rob him."

Should we blame all the murders of white people by blacks on the Hate speech of Reverend Wright after he said that white people started aides and are the devil.
Reply
Maybe we should look into that one and start posting story's even though it's complete bull $shiat.
Of course the only people that get hysterical is the white man. I mean you can take one man who attacks a priest and then use that story to make it look like white people want to kill all the Muslims. Now that is Journalism unlike Faux news. I mean come on, Huffington is COMPLETELY UNBIASED so we need to put down Faux news and make sure we get ALL our info. from Huffington.
Yes, a muslim man can kill 15 of our boys and we CAN'T JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS. But when one WHITE man attacks someone then all we can do is jump to conclusions. I mean come on, not all Muslims are terrorists so stop the fear mongering. But white people ARE terrorists and we want to kill Muslims as well as assassinate Obama.
What have we learned? If it's a Muslim then we give him the benefit of the doubt. But if it's a white person then off with his head, No fair trial.

Now we're to seeing Mediterranean priests attacked because these hate-driven wannabe patriots don't know how to tell the difference between them and Arab terrorists? Like the fact that they are from totally different parts of the world wasn't enough to tip them off? Never mind, asking for directions is hardly the huge threat described to the 911 operator ("an Arab just tried to rob me!").

I hope this guy is charged to the fullest, up to and including making a false 911 call. Plus, I would like to see the likes of Michelle Malkin and Pat Robertson be held to account as well. This is what their hate speech and fear mongering is leading to. Inciting violence IS against the law. It's about time we start prosecuting those who insist on practicing it.-

" because these hate-driven wannabe patriots"

Now in his defense, he *was* a patriot in that he's joined up for military service, unlike the vast number of anti-Muslim ranters on here who are too cowardly to step up for the ideology they spout along with their hatred.

Or marginalized to the point that no reasonable person would want to be identified as belonging to the WACKNUT clan of ignorance and insanity. But as long as political leaders and talk show hosts of the wacknuts continue to give them credibility, we'll continue to have incidences like this.

This is a tragedy that happens all too often here in the U.S. Many Americans don't understand that there are a lot more types of people in the world than Christians, Jews and Muslims. This guy was Greek. Probably dark skinned, didn't speak English, maybe dressed funny. Shortly after 9/11 there were several attacks on the Sikh community presumably because they wear turbans (even though Arabs don't). This makes us, as a country, look like a bunch of ignorant yahoos. Maybe we deserve it. I'm ashamed.

StevieGee - even though I agree with your statement (I was going to say the same thing you did about the Sikhs) - it still reflects some of the ingrained ignorance of Americans that I attribute to our xenophobia - - Point 1 - mvery few Greeks are dark skinned , maybe the one's who do a lot tanning

Point 2 - Greek Orthodox IS Chistian.
Greek Orthodox priests do have beards & usually wear black robes though

I checked out some other news sources to find out if Lance Cpl. Bruce had been deployed to the Mid-East but none of the stories that I found made any mention that this Marine had been deployed to either Iraq or Afghanistan.

I think Lance Cpl. Bruce listens to too much Glen Beck.
FTA:
Jeff Brown, the attorney for Bruce said that isn't what happened at all. According to Brown, Bruce was sexually attacked by the priest.

In a four-minute statement to the press, during which Bruce stood silent, Brown referred to Marakis as a "bearded attacker" six times and used his client's military rank 17 times, denying the very basis of the police allegations.
Brown said Marakis made crude sexual comments in English but also spoke a language his client didn't understand. He rejected a police assessment of Bruce as uncooperative and portrayed the officer handling the case as a "Marine basher" who should be the subject of an internal affairs investigation. Bruce nodded when reporters asked if Marakis made sexual comments and shook his head when asked if he had called the priest a terrorist.
Tampa Police spokeswoman Laura McElroy said Bruce's charge of a sexual advance was one of several explanations he offered when officers arrived. "One was that he tried to rob him. The other was that he was an Arab terrorist and shouted "Allahu akbar" and he explained that 'That's what they say before they blow you up.' And then he said that he grabbed his genitals and wanted to have sex with him. He gave various accounts of what happened," she said.

I stated when this happened that we needed to make sure we didn't over react and start blaming all Muslims for the terrorist action of the few.

As far as Pat Robertson. Hmmmmmmmmmmph !!!!!!
What doe he do but shill the the extreme political right in the guise of a so called Christian.
Kind of like the kettle calling the pot black.
But of course he should know the difference between being a true faith based Christian organization and a political
organization that uses its so called faith as a front to do business as it sees fit.
What truly sickens me is that people like him, are seen as the face of Christianity when he is not at all the true face of it. Jesus Christ is !!!!! -

Do you really believe a Greek Orthodox Priest would do any of the things alleged? If you were a European the answer would be a definite "no". But the alleger has probably never been to Greece, more's the pity because if he had been he would know more about human life. -
