So, Mr. President, before you embark on another round of diplomacy, ask yourself one question: Am I prepared to be tough and reassuring, cracking heads when required -- and it will be required -- and to take heat from Israel, the Arabs and the pro-Israeli community in the United States? If the answer is yes, go for it; if the answer is no, then don't bother. Find another conflict to mediate.

Pretty darn good advice.
My personal impression of Obama is that he's a good learner and flexible.
Whether both those qualities will be sufficient to resolve this problem which has already seen off many of the finest politicians and negotiators from the entire political spectrum and from every point of the compass is another question.
IMO he has as good a shot as anyone - but it will STILL, ultimately, revolve around factors beyond his control. It might require someone of exceptional longevity AND sufficient clout to bang these bone heads together and keep banging them together for the next 100 years.-

Very good advice. I couldn't agree more.

The problems in the Middle east have been around forever but the serious problems we face today date back 60 years or so. Obama can't fix things overnight but I think he understands the problem. He is moving slowly in order to deal with AIPAC here in the states.
Already we see signs that he has upset both sides which is probably a good sign. But Obama could take some advice from Carter. Look what the reaction was to Carters book promoting peace in the Middle East. The pro-israel lobby in the US has been bashing Carter ever since. Even though Carter ask the Palestinians to make more sacrifices than Israel that still was not good enough for Israel.

What exactly is Obama bin Laden getting the Nobel Peace Prize for again? For talking like he wants peace? For trying to act like Jimmy Carter? For telling the whole world that Americans are arrogant? I'm sure he had liberals in mind when he said that.

What is wrong with self criticism? What he says is true and every American administration has supported mass murder, massacre and killing of Muslims in their own countries, and also persecuted, threaten, humiliated and abused abroad where they are citizens and when they fight back they are branded as terrorists and their religion is called murderous cult especially in the Western world because they don't offer the other cheek as Jesus supposed to have taught them.

Slate he acted boldly to escalate the violence in Pakistan and he is as good as any other American presidents, when he leaves his office you would be picking up the pieces. Everything will be unfinished business as it is for the last so many years, as long as America is controlled by a foreign country, things won't change.

Please tell me how an American president can recognise an enemy of an ally as an independent state.Israel is a friend, the Palestinians are not.Once again he's using his ownership of the the congress, and senate. The only way to accomplish this is by treaty, did I sleep through that.

No President has been able to bridge the problems in the middle east. However let's not forget that Yassir Arafat won the Nobel Peace Prize just before he started the Intifada with the suicide bombers. Now you want to really talk about a joke? And that isn't just my opinion. It's a fact.

So far I remember Obama acting boldly a couple of times the first was when the abortion doctor was killed in Kansas. What did he do? He acted quickly and with determination by sending the National Guard out to protect abortion clinics and abortion doctors from further harm in case the doctor's murder was a conspiracy to attack more clinics and kill more doctors. He and Holden also condemned the doctor's murders as a dastardly act.

The second time was when he emphatically called the arrest of his friend, Professor Gates, a racist act by a stupid white policeman. Now that was bold. -

As long as Israel keeps on stealing those Arab lands there will never be peace in the Middle East. They are Just like Bernard Madoff who stole the investors monies. They are nothing more than a bunch of thieves. Joe Liberman is the same way. He is Selling His Office to the Insurance Companies rather than helping to provide better HealthCare to the Citizens of Massachusetts. He is talking bad about the very Government he is supposed to be working for. If the Government is so bad, how come it is the one that always gets those Private Companies out of trouble? Some of those Jewish Crooks have no business being in Politics.

I do believe that Lieberman represents Connecticut not Massachusetts, but I could be wrong. But considering your post and the obvious antisemitism and misinformation about who Lieberman represents, I'll just pretend that idiots like you are under strict psychiatric evaluation, or at least should be.

You must be a neocon sock puppet. Neocons are the only people who like to equate Zionism with being Jewish. Israel is about Zionism and racial supremacy, it's not about the Jews.

Since you had been on Propeller less than an hour when you posted this it's pretty obvious that you are another neocon pretending to be a racist who hates israel and therefore the Jews. It's not the first time you neocon zionists have pulled this stunt.

Just a note on Veterans Day 2009 President Obama made this statement about Veterans "Nobody made these soldiers go to war. They had to have known and accepted the risks. Now they whine about bearing the cost of their choice." Plus if you Liberals need more good reading check out at your library these two books written by President Barrack Obama, The Audacity of Hope, where Obama said "Iwill stand with the MUSLIMS should the political winds shift in an ugly direction. One must never under estimate the Manipulative Genius of a Pathological Narcissists Barrack Obama, and if the first book does not make you sick then check-out book number two "From Dreams of My Father". Obama can not blame G.W. for this trash.
