"U.S. auto sales in October were essentially unchanged from a year ago, an encouraging sign following the Cash for Clunkers sugar rush this summer. American auto plants are even ramping up production once again and calling back laid-off workers."

"But experts said that despite this good news, the auto industry hasn't turned the corner just yet."

"The results at Ford, Toyota and Chrysler are a sign that the companies are moving in the right direction," said Tom Libby, president of the Society of Automotive Analysts. "But it's not at all an indication that everything is OK."

I love hearing the Detroitskys bray about "initial quality."

Newsflash, Detroit: it's assumed a car operates just fine out of the showroom. The salient point is, what do you have left after 4 years?

Like the Toyota commercial says...what...80 percent of all Toyotas sold in the last 20 years are still on the road?

Sorry, Detroit, but that's the yardstick. Not "initial quality."

I've enjoyed my ride with Chrysler over the past 20 years. So has my mechanic. Now the wifey drives a Sequoia and I drive a Lexus. Haven't seen my mechanic in months and won't seem him until the next oil change. Nothing but smooth sailing and maintenance repairs at regular intervals.
