    As the article points out, there exist both chronic and acute leukemia. The acute type is very viscious. But chronic may take a long time to manifest itself and does not have to be nearly so viscious.

    Ther is a very nice explanation of the types of leukemia and lymphoma on the website of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
