What I don't understand is the conclusion that this power point presentation was *preaching* jihad. Concluding that Muslim soldiers might have issues fighting against Muslims and Islamic countries would seem to make common sense.

I can see no real evidence that Hasan was suggesting that he joined the Jihad and was encouraging others to join. It appears that he suggesting that Muslims being asked to fight other Muslims would result in issues and problems.
What needs to be investigated is how this escalated to his deciding to go on the war path. -

I AM COMMENTING ON A STATEMENT I READ WHERE THE U.S.GOVERNMENT HASN'T EXECUTED ANYONE IN SOME YEARS....I HAVE ONE THING TO SAY TO THAT..."IT'S ABOUT TIME THEY DID!!!" AN EXAMPLE NEEDS TO BE MADE SO THIS HORRIFIC TRAGIDY AT FORT HOOD DOES NOT HAPPEN AGAIN!! I'M AN ARMY BRAT. MY FATHER WAS A 1ST SARGENT IN THE U.S.ARMY INFANTRY. UNFORTUNATLY HE PASSED AWAY WITH FOUR OF HIS BUDDIES IN A CAR CRASH IN FORT LEONARDWOOD MO.WHEN I WAS TEN. HE WAS IN KOREA,AND GERMANY WW11 AND WOULD HAVE GONE TO VIETNAM HAD HE LIVED. YA KNOW HE'S TURNING OVER IN HIS GRAVE SEEING HOW OUR GOVERNMENT TRYS TO BE SO POLITICALY CORRECT. HE LOVED HIS COUNTRY AND BY GOD THIS MATTER WITH THIS TERRORIST WOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF!!

I was a First Lt. in the US Army, Psyops. Thankfully most military personnel aren't like yourself -- jumping to conclusions and insulting the Commander in Chief while they're serving as such. Our government isn't trying in any way to be politically correct, it is trying to discover the actual motivation behind this man's actions so that they can prevent it from happening again. Making assumptions based on little evidence, other than accusations and assumptions crapped out of the mouths of right-wing pundits, will not lead to discovering his motivation.
Most military will ask that he see a fair trial in accordance with the laws of our nation and the UCMJ. That will determine his culpability and punishment. Not hot-headed jackholes such as yourself who talk about your daddy serving when you're too cowardly to step up yourself.

This is an absolute LIE. The presentation is available online and reads like an academic presentation of what Islam is by a college professor for undergraduate students. It mentions "Jihad" in the context of defining what it is and what it means, with particular emphasis on what it means to most Muslims in the sense of the "Greater Jihad" -- which is the struggle with understanding and embracing one's faith.

What makes this country great is the constitution which guarantees everyone a fair trial. The concept of a fair trial is not adopted universally by most countries. The United States although not perfect, is a model for the world. Our belief that a person is innocent until proven guilty is one of our greatest legal and moral strengths. What ever you may think of this person it is alleged at this point until he is tried. If convicted it then becomes fact. I love this country more than anything in the world. I will not lower myself or my belief in the justice of this country to call this person a terrorist, jihadist or any other "ist" until he is tried, the facts are shown and weighed and if the facts warrant, he is then proven to be a terrorist. Those of you who have already made up your minds are no better than those in the south who used to lynch blacks just because of the color of their skin. I suggest that we all wait until the facts are born out in a legal, just trial which he will receive in this country.
