Obama Suggests Still Possible Hasan May Have Cracked Under Stress »

PRESIDENT OBAMA: "Well, look, we -- we have seen, in the past, rampages of this sort. And in a country of 300 million people, there are going to be acts of violence that are inexplicable. Even within the extraordinary military that we have -- and I think everybody understands how outstanding the young men and women in uniform are under the most severe stress -- there are going to be instances in which an individual cracks. I think the questions that we're asking now and we don't have yet complete answers to is, is this an individual who's acting in this way or is it some larger set of actors? You know, what are the motivations? Those are all questions that I think we have to ask ourselves. Until we have these answers buttoned down, I'd rather not comment on it."

Obama: You know, what are the motivations?

Hint: It's the "religion of peace".

Psychological excuses really should never be permitted to sidestep responsibility. That applies to Hasan and MrZero as well.

Stress, my foot - he has never seen combat. Maybe it was the dance hall visits that did him in.

Maybe it's the fact that he's a GD terrorist plant. Maybe it's the jihadist mosque in DC he used to worship in. The same one that 9/11 terrorists worshiped in.

The one that presides over Congress must suggest there is no need for trial.

I posted about this in another thread that didn't get much discussion but it fits the story so I'll just copy and paste.

You know I was trying to rationalize this today, which maybe can't be done, but I think it would be interesting to see if he was so radical at the start of the war. What would drive a man to kill his fellow soldiers in the name of the enemy? Why did it take him until now to do so? Why was he in the armed forces in the first place?

I think these questions can be easily answered. And no, the answer isn't he was always a Muslim extremist just like the rest of them!

Think about it this way. You work as a psychiatrist and are of a particular faith. The country you work for, and the soldiers you treat, go to war against an enemy that is of your faith. When these soldiers come home you have to listen to their stories and help them through them.

So what type of stories would this man be hearing? War is war. Bad things happen. Innocent people die, and our people sometimes kill innocent people. Sometimes they rape people, sometimes they torture people. Some times they desecrate the bodies of the people they kill. War drives people to do unthinkable things, on both sides. And sometimes people don't feel the way they think they should afterwards. Maybe the don't feel anything. If a soldier kills a man, or a woman, or maybe even a child, and feels nothing, who does he tell? Either he tells nobody and lives in an emotional hell for the rest of their lives, or they tell a loved one, or a psychiatrist.

So I wonder just how many stories this guy heard about our soldiers killing people he would consider his fellow people. How many stories of unthinkable things did he hear? I think after hearing stories like this it can definitely take its toll on the person hearing them. Maybe it grew to the point where he gained a hatred towards Americans and his fellow soldiers for what they were doing to his people and it drove him to commit this atrocity.

I'm not trying to make excuses for him, what he did was horrible and hes going to be executed because of it, I'm just trying to find the motive behind what he did.

My Fellow Americans: Why are you so hard on O? When you are one of them of course you are going to make excuses, rationalize, or find an easy out for a fellow Muslim countryman killing the enemy. Which just happens to be Us!

You people never really thought the Two Faced Leader was going to denounce this Mass Murderer did you? The O Dance is all but in a Days Work. The Real American

These are the kinds of questions that a Wellesley professor might peruse over, but it is not Presidential to contemplate OUT LOUD what the motivations or frame of mind this killer was in.

He planned for and killed 13 of our finest.

Obama just doesn't understand his position ... maybe never will.

Can you imagine either Bush or Reagan wondering out loud why he killed our soldiers? Obama is inept.

Obama does not want to admit that this was a direct act of terror on his watch. That would make him responsible.

everyone keeps trying to point to this or that in order to try and formualte a theory as to how we could have missed this or not seen the warning signs and acted.

but what no one talks about is the fact that hasan was a psychiatrist, which immediately made the situation, or the idea that we should have done something, or the notion that this could have been avoided, all that much more tricky and uncertain.

cause if its one group of people that tends to get a free pass (even though they just might be the craziest group of all) its the group who are usually on the other end of the diagnosis. the psychiatrists.

You all HATE Obama - he can do NOTHING right in your eyes - period.

Admit it and GET it OVER with.

If Obama had said NOTHING about this, you would have criticized him for saying nothing about it!

If Obama read every comment you posted and suddenly tried to cater to your whims and opinions and views, you would STILL hate him and probably criticize him for doing it!

You all are beyond all manner of common sense and legitimate thinking.

Of course he could have been traumatized .

What bothers me is the above comments saying this happens to people doing any kind of counseling - so somewhere the army failed in its mission to help anyone in this position to have plenty of help themselves.

I thought that he was where he was because he had been removed form his position? Obviously they should have done a lot more that that for him.

Outside of that, it appears that he has a long history of anti-americanism - and why was it allowed to continue.

Of course it's a large possibility. We simply don't know what triggered this guy. The title of this post assumes far too much.

The irony is, Hasan was working on a procedure to identify Muslims who might have a moral conflict with shooting other Muslims and let them honorably bow out of service as conscientious observers. In hindsight, it looks like a huge cry for help.

I have read every post on this thread and I am going to repeat something that I just posted on another thread. I really think that after reading some of the remarks here that it bears repeating. What makes this country great is the constitution which guarantees everyone a fair trial. The concept of a fair trial is not adopted universally by most countries. The United States although not perfect, is a model for the world. Our belief that a person is innocent until proven guilty is one of our greatest legal and moral strengths. What ever you may think of this person it is alleged at this point until he is tried. If convicted it then becomes fact. I love this country more than anything in the world. I will not lower myself or my belief in the justice of this country to call this person a terrorist, jihadist or any other "ist" until he is tried, the facts are shown and weighed and if the facts warrant it, he is then proven to be a terrorist. Those of you who have already made up your minds are no better than those in the south who used to lynch blacks just because of the color of their skin. I suggest that we all wait until the facts are born out in a legal, just trial which he will receive in this country.
