Perception vs reality - A message for Conservatives »
Posted By avoth 2 weeks, 2 days ago in Political OpinionPrior to my first live interaction with George W Bush, I thought of him as an amiable, laidback guy with little in the top storey and the typical
Texan's broad brush approach to life with a disdain for detail. I had always rated Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, in that order, as the most cerebral US presidents in a long time and Bush came way down in that pecking order. With no intellectual pretensions and the hate legacy of Iraq, there was pretty little to like about Bush. Except that, from a purely selfish Indian perspective, no US president had reached out and done so much for our country

My friends, I restricted this story to you because I believe you will enjoy this story of one person's ability to open his eyes and see the truth. Those who simply refuse to see any good in President Bush will rush to drop their little turds of misinformation and neg the story. That's why you were invited and they were not.

Enjoy the story. I hope you feel strengthened by it.-

Actually Bushies main "contribution" to India was to try to rope them into being another US vassal state. It was quite clear that this involved "corruption payoffs" to certain Indian politicians from the Congress and other parties.

We shouldn't forget that an israel-firster like Avoth pushes this line because the zionists are also trying to "woo" India to fighting Moslems for the zionists benefit. Remember that one of the targets in Mumbai was in fact a zionist Mossad cover operation and that Israel has long been involved in "suppressing" Muslims in Kashmir in "aid" of India. -

Once again pretty words from "bought politicians" to try to dupe Americans. Your track record is very consistent Avoth. Shouldn't you move to your country of first loyalty?

American embrace
A serious accusation against the UPA government is that in the five years of its tenure it reduced India to the status of a junior partner of the U.S.
..... The neoconservative Bush administration had charted a special role for India in the region. After 9/11, senior American officials were quoted as saying that the U.S. had only India and Israel as allies “for the long haul” in its global war against terror. The U.S. gave Israel the green signal to sell high-tech weaponry to India, including early warning systems and anti-missile systems. By the end of the UPA government’s term, Israel had emerged as the top weapons supplier to India, replacing Russia. Many multi-billion-dollar defence and aviation deals have already been signed with the U.S. The U.S. and India now closely cooperate in the fields of intelligence and surveillance. The chiefs of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) have already visited India to liaise with their counterparts here.
...The role being played by U.S. security and military agencies in the country and the manner in which the Congress-led government is promoting such ties should be a matter of serious concern for all those who wish to protect national sovereignty and the integrity of our democratic system,” the statement said.
Many countries in the region have started viewing the extremely close ties between India and Israel as a tacit alliance between the two strongest military powers in the area. The biggest backers of closer ties between India and the U.S. are the neoconservatives and those with ties to the right-wing Likud Party in Israel, which had a lot of clout with the Bush administration....
... If the electorate opts for a progressive government at the Centre, there will have to be a drastic overhaul of foreign policy. The focus should be on strengthening multipolarity and South-South cooperation. More diplomatic efforts should be expended on improving trilateral cooperation between India, China and Russia and on strengthening groupings such as BRICS, consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Concerted moves are necessary to strengthen cooperation among South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) members and promote closer relations with India’s immediate neighbours. The unifocal obsession of the Indian elite with the U.S. should come to an end....

You beat me to it, Avoth! I had it ready to submit! Great minds and all that, huh? I'm glad you got it in. President bush was my governor for 8 years before being my President for 8 years - and I have always loved him. He is too open and sincere to dislike.
Reply
I didn't agree with him on every thing, but then I didn't agree with my mother on every thing either. Even she did things sometimes I didn't like, maybe even get my ire up, but I always loved her - same with George Bush. Let's face it, Barbara Bush could not possibly raise a boy to be a bad man.
This was a good article and a heartening one that allows us to see there still exist some people who can change their thinking when they actually engage their brains. Good post, my friend.-

i've long maintained that bush's image as a dunce was done purposeful to help justify the grossly unpopular atrocities that his administration committed for 8 years straight.
Reply
the strategy is to create the perception that it isn't so much that the status-quo actually wants this, it's just that we are being steered by a moron. that's all.
lo and behold, he is not a moron -- but this is actually the course that the establishment wants.
if you looked at bush sr and realized how amazing this guy's criminal foresight was, you would know that that apple could not have fallen too far from the tree. -

So you're saying Obama's allowed to drop the ball and allow the greatest terrorist strike on America to happen once in his Presidency without you saying "I told you so"? That's very generous. -

i mean look how much joy the left takes in propping up the image that he is a mental midget. even now, they drop the article, unsure as to what to believe, faithfully resting their thesis on the oft repeated words of their liberal brethren and trusted mass media.

I base my opinion of Mr. Bush on the experience of watching him over the 8 years he was in office. In my opinion he is no mental giant. He relied far too much on Mr. Cheney, Ashcroft and others to form his opinions for him. You may disagree but that's the way opinions work. I get to form my own.
I still wonder how some folks blame some "mass media" for this perception when it is, in fact, his own fumbling, bumbling, persona that creates it. How is it the supposed "leader of the free world" couldn't never even learn to properly pronounce the word "nuclear" (not nuculer, dummy). THis man was an embarassment. The Dixie Chicks had it right!
Moreover, the media was at least as supportive of him as not. How else did he so successfully gain support for his unnecessary and misguided wars? It just depends on which polarized source one chooses to tune to. None of them seem to be truly unbiased.

No turds here, just an observation. I usually attributed GW's malapropisms and rough-hewn speech to nerves or dyslexia, until I saw tape of two speeches, 3 days apart; one to blue-collar workers in St Louis, one to an international gathering of scientists, I believe at the UN (I wish I could remember enough detail to find these clips). He clearly changed his speech idioms from one to the next, even replacing his famous "noo-cue-lar" with "nuclear" for the high-brow crowd. I began to wonder then whether he wasn't a whole lot smarter than his detractors gave him credit for...and maybe even more disingenuous. Still, most folks who know him aver that he is a decent, well-meaning person. Perhaps the civilian life has brought out his better self.

Vote Palin in 2012. Once you have hit rock bottom with her, maybe you will have learned your lesson.

Bush was a dangerous fool and that’ll be how history will remember him. Obama, regardless of how you want to rate his performance to date, has at least tried to do what he considers to be best for the citizens of the US. Bush, on the other hand, was more concerned with lining the pockets of his cronies and catering to the other bible addled simpletons that supported him. -

One of the lines from the story that really caught my eye, "Perhaps it is the company Bush kept especially that of Dick Cheney, his former vice-president that was responsible for part of that buccaneering, unemotional and heartless persona we saw"

This line basically is a statement that I would never argue about. -

Abhishek Singhvi's genuine affection for Mr. Bush is undeniable and certainly sincere.
Reply
Statistically, one non-citizens opinion of President Bush means little when compared to the combined voice of American society.
Although President Bush's popularity reached about 90% during 2001, his rating at the end of 2008 makes him one of the most unpopular presidents since polling began in the late 1930s.
Bush's exiting poll ratings were between 24% and 28%, depending on the polling source. That means 72% of American's didn't experience the same Bush Mania that the author Abhishek Singhvi is currently experiencing.
Some of you truly believe Abhishek Singhvi has brought meaningful validity to and confirmation of Mr. Bush's perceived greatness.
I will not belittle your opinions and I commend you for standing by your candidate. I will point out that your opinions are in the minority amongst your fellow Americans, and that time will ultimately be the final judge of President Bush.-

If polling has any worth at all, it is that polls tell more about the people answering them than about the topic being polled. For instance, so many in the world have a herd mentatlity, predominantly those on the left. If the lead cow moos, the rest of them moo. If the lead cow heads for the water pond, the rest of them head to the water pond. If one lib or foreigner says President Bush was s dunce, they all say it. It requires no troubling thought processes. The second cow has no idea why the first one moos, but if she moos while going over the cliff, the second one follows - heaven help her should she have to think.
Reply
President Bush had no control over herd mentality. It wasn't his place to control thinking. It isn't Obama's place either, but that's another story. Plain and simple, the left does not experience independent thought, and that is why President had such low numbers. That coupled with the libertarians who dislike military intervention until the missal is fired at us and on its way. I do believe that people in this day and age have mostly lost their minds, have brain cells dying a too fast a rate, a virus that eats brain cells or something similar. I don't know what it is, but it surely isn't that all important, necessary drive to survive. Hence, in my opinion the fight over the health care debacle is a moot point. Precious few on these threads have the will to survive and hence should not be interested in health care..
