Balloon Boy's Parents To Plead Guilty »
Posted By Newperson 1 week, 4 days ago in NewsRichard and Mayumi Heene, the couple accused of perpetrating the balloon boy hoax to promote a reality TV show, are expected to enter guilty pleas Friday morning in Larimer County Court.
Richard Heene will plead guilty to attempting to influence a public servant, a class-four felony," said Richard Heene's lawyer, David Lane, in a statement e-mailed to 7NEWS early Thursday.
Mayumi Heene will plead guilty to false reporting to authorities, a class-three misdemeanor, he said.
"The stipulations carry the possibility of up to 90 days in jail for Richard and 60 days for Mayumi along with the probation,
It is supremely ironic that law enforcement has expressed such grave concern over the welfare of the children, but it was ultimately the threat of taking the children's mother from the family and deporting her to Japan which fueled this deal," said Lane. "Threatening to stretch what is essentially a low level misdemeanor into a felony prosecution followed by deportation upon conviction simply to make a point shows a complete and utter disregard for the true best interests of these children."

The boy was asked why he hid in the attic and he turned to his dad and said, "Uh, you said we did it for the show.

I think the kid was scared of his father.
This thing was a hoax that cost the tax payers alot of money. They should be made to pay it back. -

They got off light. The children would be better off with foster care. These parents involved their children in a hoax and subjected them to the mental anguish that arose from their fraud. All to get a reality show. Not fit parents.

While I understand your outrage, I wouldn't wish the foster care system on anyone with any viable alternative to avoid it. It is far less a solution than a bottomless pit with its own brand of abuse.

These kids would most likely be much better off away from their father, but honestly I think the mother is as much a victim in this whole family unit as the children are. I don't know that you could improve their situation through foster care as much as if the father was put away and mom was left alone with the kids. Then maybe they could all grow strong enough to resist him upon his return.

My mother was in a relationship like this man where she was afraid of him and it seems simple that the wife could just run away, but it isn't simple like that at all. I wish Mayumi could just pack up the kids and run to Japan, where there they WILL protect her from the control freak that probably picked the Japanese wife for that reason right there, so she will be submissive to him. Happens ALL the time.

I honestly feel bad for Japanese women, and especially when they marry a white man and look up to him, it is the man that should look up to these women, a Japanese wife is the bomb, I mean I have seen them in Japan, Hawaii and here on the mainland taking good care of their hubby's, clean, cook, care for their man and many will even work. I am a single woman and all I can say is, I don't care if a dog wanted to cook and clean for me and care for me, I would be kissing their butt, so I don't understand why men would not atleast treat these women like princesses, because in my opinion, they deserve it don't you think???? As far as Heene man, he just takes advantage of a nice girl who will be submissive to her husband and follow his orders, so sad to me. If I were a man, I would treat her like gold.

This is an interesting case.

The parents are guilty, of that there is little doubt.
They forced their children to lie with them to perpetuate the hoax, of that there is little doubt.
I am glad they have decided to plead guilty and save the taxpayers of Colorado the cost of a trial they would surely lose anyway.
What I am a little uneasy about is the way these officials convinced them to plead guilty. To threaten someone, a LEGAL citizen, with deportation JUST to receive a guilty plea is wrong, I think. It could very well fall under the charge of "coercion" on the officials part for getting that plea of guilty. And last I checked, coercion was just as illegal as the fraud these people are accused of committing. Illegal is illegal, is it not?
Like I say....I'm glad it's settled and I do believe they are guilty without a doubt, but the whole way this went down seems dirty to me. Could it have not been settled without crossing that line of coercion? This whole case now, both sides of it, stinks to high heaven.
