One problem, he said, is defining it.
Kitty Clasing, president, Mason City Park Board, said middle class can depend on where you live. “What is middle class here may be something totally different, let’s say, in the Appalachian mountain areas where some folks are lucky to have a roof over their heads,” she said. “Here’s my take on middle class in Iowa: $60,000-100,000, lower middle class; $100,000-200,000, middle middle class; $200,000-$500,000, upper middle class.
