If given the choice between feeding the homeless and tending to the needs of those who may be re-electing me, I am not sure what I would pick as a judge. Surely, his compassion was checked at the door to the courtroom. Instead of allowing a church to carry out its mission of tending to the needy where they live, the judge ordered the church to pack up and move its breakfast kitchen to a commercial zone. Good luck to the homeless of Phoenix. The judges there have a "not in my neighborhood" mentality.

That judge is a pompous idiot.

What disturbs me the most about this story is that neighborhoods would rather see the homeless swept away and hidden from sight than to work out an amicable arrangement to feed the homeless and to eliminate the problems that homelessness brings to neighborhoods. One good thing that I see might come out of this is that the problems of the homeless are more visible to those in a position to help.

That is messed up. I have seen this before and it is a bad thing. The homeowners don't want them in ther neighborhoods. The businesses are not going to welcome them into there areas. The ones that will suffer are the poor people that are just trying to survive. Real sad. Some people just don't care about others.

              Nothing new.

Food not Bombs has been feeding the homeless and hungry for free, for years, and has been hounded by courts and cops from one coast to the other.

The class war is on. Time for our side to fight back.

Since when is a church zoned improperly for giving free meals?? We do it here with most of the churchs in a residential zone. Guess the judge has never participated in a bread-line, but that could change. :-)

Our current economic situation has complicated this issue. In prosperous times the "homeless" are more likely to be the"bums" that b-happy speaks of, the dregs of society. They were more frequently confined to more commercial areas. Now there are so many homeless families that need the help of these churches that the clientele is from a much more diverse segment of society. How do you keep the truly needy, down on their luck types, from the chronic homeless that are homeless because of their alcohol or mental health problems? Not an easy thing to do.

Sadly, what people like b-happy refuse to realize is that many homeless are not that way because they are lazy and want a free ride...a number of them have mental disorders, and no one who cares. My fiancee', who is bipolar, was homeless for a number of years...and he has a very strong work ethic. However, he wasn't on any medication at the time, and like most bipolars, had a very difficult time holding down a job. People like b-happy are often quick to point fingers and pass judgment without finding out the stories behind the faces. 8(
