If given the choice between feeding the homeless and tending to the needs of those who may be re-electing me, I am not sure what I would pick as a judge. Surely, his compassion was checked at the door to the courtroom. Instead of allowing a church to carry out its mission of tending to the needy where they live, the judge ordered the church to pack up and move its breakfast kitchen to a commercial zone. Good luck to the homeless of Phoenix. The judges there have a "not in my neighborhood" mentality.

I completely agree with this judge. This same EXACT thing happened to me in my city of Santa Cruz, Ca. The incompetent city council just let's these bums run rampant and they support everything from giving them free food and money.

Now since I live downtown theses bums think they can use my house as their bathroom, storage space for their stuff behind the bushes, drug dealing/using behind my covered garage, sex, and every other disgusting thins these people do.
I have had my car broken into two times, bums following my wife to my house, poop left on my front porch and anything else that you can think of.
Now I know that ALL of you who have opposed this law don't have to deal with this crap so you have NO IDEA what it's like to live with bums who don't care about what they do to your private property. The problem is that the stupid people who make laws allowing these bums to roam our neighborhood don't even live close to where I am. They live in their million dollar mansions where there are no bums.
I guarantee that if you people had to see what I've seen, you would support this guy. But you don't know and YOU are the ones who force people to take up arms against the army of bums that LIBERALS love to have in their city's. Just go to the pi$$ stinking, $hiat smelling San Francisco and see for yourself. Bums passed out in the street. Drugs EVERYWHERE. It's disgusting and no one, especially with kids, should have to deal with bums in their yard.

What disturbs me the most about this story is that neighborhoods would rather see the homeless swept away and hidden from sight than to work out an amicable arrangement to feed the homeless and to eliminate the problems that homelessness brings to neighborhoods. One good thing that I see might come out of this is that the problems of the homeless are more visible to those in a position to help.

That is messed up. I have seen this before and it is a bad thing. The homeowners don't want them in ther neighborhoods. The businesses are not going to welcome them into there areas. The ones that will suffer are the poor people that are just trying to survive. Real sad. Some people just don't care about others.

Your side? You obviously have no clue who or what you are. Equating yourself with a bunch of bums who use peoples front yards as bathrooms is very eye opening. Most bums don't have time to sit on propeller and own their own computer.

The judge didn't say he wanted to stop the church from handing out food. What he said is do it somewhere else so the neighbors don't have to deal with the bums that come there for the free food and leave a trail of destruction behind them.

Our current economic situation has complicated this issue. In prosperous times the "homeless" are more likely to be the"bums" that b-happy speaks of, the dregs of society. They were more frequently confined to more commercial areas. Now there are so many homeless families that need the help of these churches that the clientele is from a much more diverse segment of society. How do you keep the truly needy, down on their luck types, from the chronic homeless that are homeless because of their alcohol or mental health problems? Not an easy thing to do.

Sadly, what people like b-happy refuse to realize is that many homeless are not that way because they are lazy and want a free ride...a number of them have mental disorders, and no one who cares. My fiancee', who is bipolar, was homeless for a number of years...and he has a very strong work ethic. However, he wasn't on any medication at the time, and like most bipolars, had a very difficult time holding down a job. People like b-happy are often quick to point fingers and pass judgment without finding out the stories behind the faces. 8(
