No easy way out for Dems on abortion »
Posted By corl64 1 week, 2 days ago in Political OpinionThe sudden spasm of intense debate over abortion on Capitol Hill this week threatens not only to stall the passage of health care legislation, but also to shatter the delicate cease-fire that has governed the abortion issue during the Obama era.

The opinion of superstition and myth should have no place in this discussion. Religion should be discouraged not encouraged. These health decissions should be covered and they should be made by the patient and her doctor not some unstable clergyman.Get religion out of government and keep it out.

Abortion is murder. Period. Doesn't need an emphasis on religion to be addressed, although that is an added factor. Abortion is used as a birth control method and since there are better more economical ways that prevent pregnancy, use them.

Abortions would be a HUGE opportunity for fraud in the system. Gather up poor young girls or woman, give them $150 for their consent, claim an abortion performed, collect $2500 or more, do it again with the same girl in a few months.

The arrogance of the nazi liberal politicians is appalling if they think they are going to sneak in government funded abortion on a bill that most people don't want. They must think we are pretty stupid. This bill will destroy our economy and turn the U.S. into a 3rd world country. I'm sure the Democrats know this. If they don't then they are dumber than they look.

1) The first americans to fight the nazis, were liberals who

joined the Abraham Lincoln brigade to fight Franco in the spanish civil war.
2) yes we think you are stupid.
3) If we thought the bill would destroy the us economy we would not
favor it, since we live here and this is our country. See #2.
In summation:
You idiot inability to stop flattering yourself by insisting that anyone who
disagrees with you, plots to destroy the nation tells us
you don't have much in the mirror or your memories to feel good about.

it seems there is a model already in place.

if you get plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons, that's elective and not covered. if you you get plastic surgery because you were burned (for ex) that's medically necessary and covered.
so, following that logic;
if the mother's life is in jeopardy, that's necessary and covered, if not that is elective and not covered. -

And just how did abortion become a "health care" issue anyway?? At best, it falls into the category of elective surgery which NO health insurance policy covers. Notwithstanding the very significant moral issue of killing a living being with human DNA, abortion has no place in a "health care" bill except in the very limited situations where where it is a true "health" issue.

Dumbocrats are very lacking in the morals department.
Reply
They want to be able to sleep around and not worry about that little baby that they are making.
As Obama put it, a woman should not be "punished" with a baby for her hot time in the sack.
The person that is being "punished" is the baby by killing this gift from God.
That is a very sick and selfish point of view.-

So you are really dumb enough to believe it is only liberals and Democrats that have abortions?
Reply
Most of those I have known who have had abortions were morally upright sorority types who were still probably wearing their promise rings when the procedure was done. Of course it was always a "dirty little secret" never to be mentioned again. These women would of course still have safe abortions if the procedure were once again outlawed in America. They would simply fly out of the country.
It isn't about murder it is about a womans choice. A decision a man will never have to make.
You also don't want to hear it but I can say it because I will never run for office...but if it weren't for abortion and if there were 30 million plus additional Americans today (many of whom would have special medical needs) born into situations where they were viewed as a burden then government (state and federal) services would be strained beyond belief. Overpopulation would be the #1 issue because the economic consequences would be simply devastating.
Of course the solution is and has always been simple. All you so-called pro-lifers can simply agree to adopt one of these babies without regard to race, creed or culture and without concern for potentially devastating medical costs. No pre-selection allowed. No weeding out of the less fortunate. They are all Gods children after all. Sign up today. Shouldn't this be your absolute duty? -

The problem with many of your arguments is that you believe that abortions reside exclusively within the domain of the impoverished, system abuser, minority, unmarried, drug user.

My wife's life is threatened by a pregnancy. Who makes the decision? My wife and I? The government? Let's see where you stand on government intrusion into the private concerns and lives of the citizenry.-

my sympathies. I had a similar issue within my family where the child was not expected to be born alive, and if it was, no child with this condition had ever seen its third birthday. every day would have been suffering for the child and the parents. so they decided to abort. it was terrible for all concerned.
Reply
but there is nothing about this bill or amendment calling for government intrusion or decision making. the original bill kept the law as is. the amendment prevents the public choice or any tax supported private insurance from funding abortions.
it does nothing to prevent abortions or cause them. -

They have no problem with government intrusion on that issue. They are always for Federal government intrusion, even on states' rights, when it suits their predisposition( e.g. Federal law definig "marriage"). They are only against it when it doesn't suit them.

I have an acquaintance who voted for Obama. The reason she said was to protect her right to have an abortion. This woman is 65 years old and there is not chance she would ever be pregnant again in her life. I pointed this out to her but she said keeping her right to have an abortion was more important than protecting her property rights. Most of the liberal progressives I have ever talked to are as unreasonable as this woman.

Are you seriously incapable of understanding that not everyone views the world and their rights as ONLY pertaining to them? It sounds like your acquaintance understands this, by voting to protect "her right" to an abortion she'll never need. She was voting for every woman's right. In other words, she gets that the world doesn't revolve around her and the rights she is protecting are about more than just her.
Reply
You could learn a thing or two from your acquaintance, like simple compassion and empathy for her fellow man. And if anyone in your described conversation with her deserves the label of "unreasonable" it certainly wouldn't be her. -

You're joking, right?

Your comment is simply ludicrous. It is more than apparent that this "acquaintance" was supporting the right of all women to retain the freedom of choice in respect to their constitutional right to reproductive freedom.
I'm quite sure this woman is cognitive of the physical limitations of her 65 year old anatomy.

the women who want the right to abort in the bill are the ones who want to stop using birth control, after all if the government pays for the murder why not its free to them and they can Screw around with out the responsibility of the action

if you think any woman actually wants a doctor to reach up inside her and rip out her unborn child and the lining of her uterus in a painful and bloody mess you are a complete idiot.

abortion is a desperate act of necessity, not birth control. -

I don't believe an elective abortion should be paid for by the government or even by insurance. It is completely elective and should be paid for by the person who wants to have it performed. But then, I believe the same thing for ALL elective procedures like plastic surgery and Viagra prescriptions as well.
Reply
A necessary abortion, where the mom's life is in danger or in the case of rape, incest, etc, where the woman is actually a victim of her pregnancy, then it should be covered like any other medical necessity.
We need to get past the fact that it's an abortion, and look at the medical necessity of each case and let the status quo regarding medical necessity dictate coverage, just like anything else that's done. -

The Stupak-Pitts Amendment is a deliberate and subversive act intended to systematically undermine abortion rights with one swift stroke of genius. The Hyde Amendment has been taken hostage and abortion rights are the sacrificial lamb.
Reply
Furthermore, the Stupak-Pitts Amendment has the potential of blind siding the progression of health care reform in general.
Representative Bart Stupak has manufactured an ingenious tactical assault designed to sabatage the advancement of social equality for millions of Americans who suffer the misfortune of being uninsured.
The Christian Right has devised a plan of attack intended to neuter abortion laws and regress reproductive rights to pre-1973 standards.
The Christian Right has been (incorrectly) persuaded to believe that the Bible condemns abortion, suggesting that God's politics tend to be the politics of the people who claim to speak for Him. -
