This situation reminds me of the days people depended on whale oil...as man has never quiet learned.

After reading the article and looking at the IEA map vs the Uppsala map, I would be more inclined to believe the IEA's prediction. If you look at the maps, the "currently producing fields", shown in dark blue are virtually identical in both reports. There for the differences in the prediction are do to the other variables. Thhe biggest difference is the Uppsala prediction shows significantly less production from undeveloped fields and fields yet to be found. This would only occur if we assume there are no other significant technological innovations in exploration and production. In the next 20 years the only thing that will cause oil production to decrease (as uppsala sugests) is not dwindling supplies, but possible dwindling demand in which case prices will level out. The following 20 years after that will likely see supplies dwindle and begin to run out.

regardless of how much oil there really is, we know we need to get off of it.

it pollutes the air we breathe, and it makes us dependant on foriegn nations.

we have to develop technology that will allow solar power to become viable as our primary source. it is abundant, never-ending, non-polluting, and free.

Can we get free from oil dependence? The oil companies have too much money and power. Can it be done before we run out? Probably not. Oil execs are that greedy and arrogant.

      .

      Good.

Then we can move on to the Water Wars.

Running out of oil and running out of water

      spells out a bigger problem.

We, as a species, are running out of time.

The last grains are falling through the hourglass.

Is it too late for us to change?
