RNC Insurance COVERS Abortion!!! »
Posted By Eagle_Eye 1 week ago in Health & Fitness(Nov. 13) -- Conservatives are fuming and liberals are pointing fingers over news that the Republican National Committee's insurance policy covers abortions.
Politico broke the story late Thursday and within hours, the RNC was in damage-control mode.
"I don't know why this policy existed in the past, but it will not exist under my administration. Consider this issue settled," Chairman Michael Steele pledged in a statement.
Hot Air's Allahpundit called the news "a needless political headache," especially now that abortion funding has become a critical issue in the health care reform battle. The House version of the bill includes an amendment by Michigan Democrat Bart Stupak that forbids any public insurance option from covering abortion.
"The current policy has been in effect since 1991, and we are taking steps to address the issue," RNC spokeswoman Gail Gitcho told Politico.
Not good enough, said one outraged conservative blogger. Whoever made the decision on the RNC insurance plan (apparently back when Lee Atwater was in charge of the party) must be "summarily fired," wrote RedState's Leon H. Wolfe. And until that happens, he said, "No pro-lifer in good conscience can give them a dime." Wolfe called it an "almost unspeakable" betrayal for the RNC to allow even a small portion of donations to fund an employee benefits package that pays for abortions.
On the other side of the blogosphere, True/Slant's Rick Unger accused the GOP of "hypocrisy or incompetency at the highest levels."

Some people claim big bad government has no place interfering in citizens lives when it comes to protecting their health...and then those same people support government interfering in citizens lives to protect their health...

The right doesnt seem to ever fall short of ways to come up with new examples. Voting to cut off funding to Acorn for the prostitution ring sting vs saying KBR and employees cant be tried for gang-rape because it would be govt meddling in a private companies contract.

There is the liberal droppings from the north end of a south bound bull. What the Republicans and a lot of Democrats want to prevent is GOVERNMENT paying for it. They have said many times if people want to pay for that in their insurance that is fine. Just not on the government money.

this has been in effect since 1991.

yes, 1991.
and now Steele is saying he doesn't know how that got in there.
but Cigna, the policy carrier, is saying all the choices were thoroughly laid out for the GOP (including elective abortion) and they opted in for that option, knowing full well what they were doing. -

PA, try reading the post, this is about the insurance the Republican National Committee all ready has, and has had since 1991 that PAYS FOR ELECTIVE ABORTION. Now you can not tell me or any other person that Republicans are PRO life after this, because if they Truly were, then Cigna would of never provided an "Abortion" benefit.

There is ALREADY a federal law that BANS the use of any government funds for abortions.
That law has been in existence for a long time, and the health care reform bill has absolutely NOTHING in it that would override that law.
The 'abortion' amendment was a waste of time, because it was meaningless, because federal law already prohibits it.

"How come they are just dropping the story and not commenting"

Because one thing I've noticed about conservative extremists is that they do NOT like to admit to ANY mistakes on their side. They love pointing out Democratic corruption, and even that both sides are corrupt, but when it comes down to it, none of them will admit to any Republican faults.
The hilariously sad part is, these are the SAME people who routinely accused liberals of holding Obama as the "messiah"...and yet, they can admit to no wrong on their side. 8( -

Because commenting would include one of two things......defending the indefensible or admitting their guys are wrong about something. And while they have been known to defend the indefensible on some issues, this one crosses that line that I think most who are pro-life are unwilling to cross. If they try and defend this, they will have to defend abortion. They won't do that. But that leaves the only other alternative of admitting their guys got something wrong. These days, that's about as big of a taboo as defending abortion.

Great find EE...........I think you managed to find the one article that the conservatives on here will be unable to spin...no matter how they may try. Silence, in this case, is their only option. That way they can at least pretend they don't know about it. -

Their world just collapsed, they just found out that their heroes, who had their total devotion, screwed them and used them, for their own ends. The one issue that they could always count on, turned out to be just a talking point to garner votes from the sheep...too sad really. It is a sad day for the cons, their leaders have shown they do not actually uphold the values of their constituents.

This is what happens when groups jump a bandwagon and pontificate about an issue like nothing else in the world matters....when the dust settles, hypocrisies are exposed and the issue is revealed as the political soundbite it always was. The sad part is that those who fell for it to begin with will likely be unable or unwilling to admit they've been duped, yet again, for the political gain of the party who continues to prove they don't give a damn about the constituency who votes for them.

even if they drop it, Cigna will still offer it to others, which means GOP money will be going to support those plans as well (since they are paying the Cigna corp).

Sort of defeats the whole point of the Stupak Amendment doesn't it? -
