Mikunited's message re the story: [I couldn't state it better and I don't think there could be a better introduction to this shameful tale of collusion]
"As A Brit this shames me deeply!!When Abu Ghraib first become news,I felt British cases would one day be found also.It seems that the percentage of bigots in the US and UK forces is broadly similar. This isn't a reflection of the brave multitude of soldiers, who at such a young age are taken away from all that they know, only to be thrown headlong into an illegal war.Yet just like in civil society, there is that percentage of people who bring shame on themselves, their families, their army, their nation and humanity as a whole
The most worrying thing of all, is the relaxed attitude of the leadership. There is even the possibility of encouragement and compliance, used as a policy by the leadership, right up to the top echelons of government. We can only hope that President Obama and premier Brown do what's necessary,to clean up the mess that Bush and Blair have left behind them."

I'm half English, grew up there, but have chosen to stay away from the place for a very long time. England was brilliant in the 60's and for part of the 70's. The ruination started with Thatcher and was completed by Bliar. Unfortunately there's no sign of a light at the end of the tunnel. Even the BBC lost its independence and was castrated on the flimsiest and most shameful of pretexts which were connected to the murder of Dr David Kelly. Fortunately most of my best friends are also gone and we meet in Europe or the US.

    As for Brown..
Do you really have much hopes for him?
I'm afraid he was overly-loyal for too long and will never look like anything other than yesterday's man!

I actually feel very sorry for Gorden Brown. He was intellectually miles ahead of Blair,he was a genuine social democrat and had ideals.Blair was allowed to become the labor leader because,he was more telegenic and thought of as a better bet when confronted by "middle England".The Sun backed him and the Mail,Telegraph etc found attacking him more difficult, after all he was "old tory" as much as "new labor",that is if there ever was a difference.
Apparently, they were meant to have an agreement where Blair took the leadership and win one election and then stand down,to be replaced by Brown. We all know the rest
New Labor for Blair meant the Thatcherization of the Labor movement,to Brown it meant the modernization of the Labor movement. All the decent things the labor government has done, like the minimum wage, tax credits for the low paid,a minimum guarantee for pensioners, the end of fox hunting ,all had Browns hand print on them .
I will vote for Brown next year.if only because he is the lesser of evils. To vote for the greens, would be gesture politics.Having said all this,he does seem like yesterdays news, but is the only decent man leading a UK party today
Have a good weekend my friend ---Mike

I have such a hard time relating to the liberal british anymore. It seems they all read this story and swallow it whole. I am skeptical of the content. The press is extremely biased in a liberal way and they slant stories for their agenda. I am forever grateful that my ancestors left England for the new world. We are far more free here in America, in our thoughts and views than any place on earth.

Logistics 1220-It is not only the "liberal"papers that carry this story in the UK.It is the ultra conservative press like the Mail and the telegraph as well. The part of this story that deals with "Abu Gharib",is accurate,it is common knowledge that torture happened.
The rest of this story is looking at British acts of torture. This story has come into the public arena, because the UK "ministry of defense"is making official enquiries.Should we turn a blind eye to this?Should the majority of our brave and extremely young troops,be tarnished with the same brush as the criminal minority.
I'm sorry you have to full back on raciest taunts, but I understand that most Americans are not like you.I treat people on the contents of their character, not the accident of where they are born.To end with,I don't consider myself a liberal, but a social democrat or socialist even!

I consider myself neither a Democrat nor a Republican. And Logistics1220. My fathers family came from the Nottingham area.
I have visited there and London.

It is truly amazing that people who don't want to believe that tens of thousands of people were tortured and hundreds of people were tortured to death. The Abu Gharib case of Al Jamidi is easy enough to check out - just google his name.

To help you decide whether torture took pale and whether innocent people were tortured to death, branch out from the Al Jamidi case or watch the Documentary "Taxi to the Dark Side". Read "Afghanistan Death Convoy", google renditions, or just plug in torture and go from there.

If you do a lot of research and are still not convinced, then I nor any facts will convince you.

Rest assured that there are millions of people around this earth that know how depraved our Government became during the past and we as a people are less for it.

We need to return to moral and ethical behavior. Nothing less is acceptable.
