CBC News - World - Shamelessness on Wall Street, who knew? »
Posted By greenmac 1 week, 4 days ago in Business & Finance"Nicknamed "Goldmine" on the Street, Goldman just posted a profit of $3.18 billion in the third quarter of this year.
In this awful, miserable, depressed year, at a time when at least one in 10 Americans are jobless, the average pay for Goldman's 30,000 employees is expected to clock in at $700,000.
That means tens of millions for the masters of the universe at the top of the Goldman feeding chain.
This at a company that enthusiastically participated in the system-wide, industrial-scale fraud of mortgage securitization, which nearly dragged the American economy, and much of the world, off a cliff last year.
A company that, like so many of the other quick-buck artists on Wall Street, had to be rescued by big government, which is something hard-core free-enterprisers proudly claim to despise, at least until they need help."

"'God's work'
Anyway, Blankfein is not only proud of all this, he thinks Americans should be grateful. Goldman Sachs, he says, is doing "God's work."
"We're very important," he told the Times of London in a recent interview. "We help companies to grow by helping them to raise capital.
"Companies that grow, create wealth. This, in turn, allows people to have jobs that create more growth and more wealth. It's a virtuous cycle. We have a social purpose."
Shamelessness barely begins to describe that declaration. The fact is this: The free-market Wall Street swashbucklers recording all these profits are doing so only because they've been allowed to make some smart bets with taxpayers' money."
John 6:26-29
"26 Jesus answered them and said, "Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him."
28 Then they said to Him, "What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?"
29 Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.""
Hmmmmmmmm ??? Seems the guy hasn't read or understand what Jesus Christ said.
Matthew 16:19-24
Wealth
Luke 11:34-36; 12:22-34
"19 "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
22 "The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon."-

The defintion of Mammon.
Reply
"MAMMON [MAM mun] (riches) a word that speaks of wealth (Matt.:6:24;Luke:16:9, 11, 13), especially wealth that is used in opposition to God. Mammon is a transliteration of an Aramaic word that means wealth, riches, or earthly goods. Modern versions translate it as money, gold, and material possessions. Jesus said that no one can serve two mastersGod and moneyat the same time. Nor can mammon (money) purchase security (see Jesus parable of the rich fool in Luke 12:1321). For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? (Matt.:16:26;Mark:8:36;Luke:9:25)."
"WEALTH an abundance of possessions or resources. During the times of the Patriarchs, wealth was measured largely in livestocksheep, goats, cattle, donkeys, and camels. This was true of Abraham (Gen.:13:2), Isaac (Gen. 26:1214), and Jacob (Gen.:30:43; 32:5). People of the ancient world also measured wealth in terms of land, houses, servants, slaves, and precious metals. The prime example is King Solomon, whose great wealth is described in 1 Kings 10:1429.
Wealth is a major theme in the Wisdom Literature of the Bible (Prov.:10:15; 13:11; 19:4). The most important observation of these writings is that wealth comes from God (Prov.:3:9). The possession of wealth is not always the sign of Gods favor. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? (Jer.:12:1) became a familiar theme to the writers of the Old Testament. The popular view that wickedness brings poverty and goodness brings wealth is strongly opposed by the Book of Job.
The prophet Amos thundered against the rich and prosperous inhabitants of Israel, who sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of sandals (Amos:2:6). Their wealth was corrupt and under a curse because it was founded on exploitation of the poor.
In the New Testament, many warnings are given of the dangers of letting money and things possess a persons heart. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus spoke of treasures on earth and treasures in heaven and called upon His followers to be careful of which treasure they chose (Matt.:6:19, 24).
Many of Jesus parables, such as the rich fool (Luke 12:1321) and the rich man and Lazarus (Luke:16:19), deal with people who made the wrong choice, choosing earthly wealth over heavenly wealth. But the only true and lasting wealth is the spiritual riches of Gods grace (Matt.:13:44)."
I just wanted to add these comments in case some "I deserve to be wealthy, God says so."
"Christian" spouts off.
