Mayor Giuliani is exactly right. The system is in place, so why this blatantly political crusade to bring these people to New York. How about they change the venue to Washington, DC. KSM masterminded the 9/11 attacks. Wasn't the Pentagon one of the targets? Hold the trials in the Congressional chambers where about 90% of the members are lawyers already on the U.S payroll. Have the bleeding heart liberal members defend the accused and let the others prosecute in the name of America. Its obvious that Holder has no interest other than political in this matter.

It could to be dangerous no matter where the trial is held.

9/11 was an attack on the people and the government of this nation. Having the case decided by a military tribunal or in a civil trial doesn't matter all that much to me. As long as there is a trial, that's what matters. The advantage of a civil trial is the many of the details would be allowed out. A military tribunal...well...we know we'll never learn anything except that the defendants are guilty.
And where to have this trial?
How about White Sands, New Mexico? Or in some desert area in Arizona or Nevada?
Area 51 would be a great place...can't seem to get within 20 miles of it.
Having the trial in any of those areas would have the least amount of effect on the least number of people involved. Everyone could be flown in, put up for the 3-6 months the trial will last, and then let everyone go home.

Former Mayor Giuliani is partially right.

These people are accused of involvement in an act of war and this should be a military tribunal, not a public circus using laws designed to handle citizens who commit crimes. Osama Bin Laden was laughing on one video as he described how the terrorists could use U.S. law against the U.S. Now this is being used in a partisan attack by both major parties.-

"not a public circus using laws designed to handle citizens who commit crimes"......Then explain to us how the first one's to attack the WTC fared under civilian criminal law..This won't be the first case of this type.

I do agree however that we had better have tight security because some cells are likely to be active to try and stop it.

The U.S. is a nation of laws. The Military Commissions Act does not guarrantee justice. If you believe that those accused should automatically be assumed guilty than you will love the military tribunals where a conviction is a foregone conclustion.

By the way, Kalid was tortured into a confession. That is not true justice. -

They should have it out in New York, the scene of the crime aren't the victims of 9/11 entitled to have their say in this? I'm sure the families of the perished victims would want this to happen right here in the Big Apple. Let justice be dispensed, and done with here.

"What the Obama administration is telling us loud and clear is that both in substance and reality, the war on terror from their point of view is over," Giuliani said. Mohammad "should be tried in a military tribunal. He is a war criminal. This is an act of war."

How strange...
The 1993 World Trade Center Bombing was hardly much different in intent. Yet, when Mr. G was mayor they did the same thing Holder wants. If anything that trial set precedent.
Talk about politics. -

Actually, I think, holding civilian trials in New York is in many ways mostly symbolic.

Terrorists are usually relatively small groups that do not possess the ability to "war" with their "enemies" so they use their stealth attacks to instill fear in a population and "paralyze" it so that it no longer functions effectively. By a slow and steady process they eventually hope to win "their war".
By publicly trying these terrorists we are showing them and the world that we do not fear the terrorists thus robbing them of their victory. Are there risks involved? Certainly, but if we aren't willing to face those risks the terrorists have won. We have won a much bigger battle if we trust our ability to protect our people and still dispense justice in an open and honest fashion.
I, for one, trust my country and it's judicial system and law enforcement system to be capable of handling this challenge and I wonder why if you don't have that trust why you are still living here. -

The bombers of the WTC in 1993 were from the same group of terrorists & they were tried in Federal Court in NY & convicted. I remember seeing guards with automatic weapons on the streets then & the trial was safely conducted.

New Yorkers were murdered in New York & they murders must be tried here - in Federal Court of coure, if for no other reason NY de facto has no death penalty & I believe terrorism is the only crime worthy of it. -

If this trial was to be held in the secrecy of a military tribunal, it would only add fuel to the conspiracy wingnuts.
Reply
It must be in open court hopefully televised. This doesn't mean we will know the truth, but at least it is a small light in the dark -

Reprint from another post: The biggest cowards are those that illegally operate in secret and stealth knowing that if their activities saw the light of day, they would be ineffectual and become impotent. The second biggest cowards are those who support the biggest cowards. And that would be Gouliani and the rest of the republicans who are so afraid of an open trial.

Giuliani was a lame duck mayor with a very low public rating when he woke up on 9/11 - the luckiest day of his political & financial life. There is no denying he responded in a strong manner later that day. while the Republican administration did nothing other than to seek their own safety. However, Giuliani was always one to exploit a situation for his own furtherence, & he has been doing that for 6 years now - bet he has a picture of Bin Ladin under his pillow.

The downside risks for holding these trials in New York are huge in terms of world opinion.
Reply
The leftists want to show "fairness", but the bottom line may very well show "foolishness". It takes place in the face of and inconveniences the victims, plus they pay much of the tab. Unbelievable in my opinion.-

Where are we supposed to try them then? We can't do it in gitmo. There are no laws there. A secret prison in Uzbekistan or Romania? The thing that is truly unbelievable is that there was no outrage from the right when bush violated not only the consitution of the US and the Geneva convention when he set up gitmo. Not surprising though considering the right hates America and onnly loves the Republican .arty.
Reply
Where would you try them that does not violate the constitution or the genva convention? Not that I expect a response.
