It was all too predictable.
From the moment Sarah Palin was airlifted out of the Alaska hinterlands by John McCain and plopped onto the national stage, she's been telling anyone who will listen how poorly she's been treated by the media, the Democrats, the blogosphere, etc. After she did her part in scuttling McCain's already foundering campaign, she added to her list of personal persecutors the same McCain staffers who made her a household name in the first place. The conservative media have cheered on her personal pity party every step of the way, adamantly refusing to acknowledge that Sarah Palin -- perfect Sarah Palin, conservatism's hockey-mom messiah -- has done anything wrong.
So it was inevitable that when Palin and her ghostwriter teamed up to produce her newly release memoir, Going Rogue: An American Life, it would be anything but a tedious exercise in self-martyrdom. The second half of the book, which recounts her time with McCain and the aftermath of the presidential campaign, is a litany of complaints peppered with absolutions of any errors on her part. Palin's account of her disastrous interviews with CBS anchor Katie Couric consists mainly of attacks on Couric for "badgering" her, "edit[ing] out substantive answers," and trying to "frame a 'gotcha' moment." She chastises McCain campaign staffers for having "no script to begin with," for not following her advice and talking about Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and for nurturing the "wardrobe fairy tale" so they could throw her "under the media bus" after the campaign ended.

If some author wrote a political novel, where Sarah Palin was the central character, critics would complain that she was totally unbelievable. The fact that she could have been vice-president in reality, shows how crazy the World can be.

As an Englishman, facing the likely probability of a conservative victory,in next years UK general election, the American right make me realise things could be worse.
The most frightening group, are the USA's right wing media hounds. The Glen Becks,Rush Limbaugh,Michael Savage's of the World. They are tacitly calling for the assassination of their president. They are openly anti gay, raciest, uncouth and likely to cause some nut ball to cause violence or murder.
Don't get me wrong I don't like the UK conservative party, but they have openly gay men in their shadow cabinet, accept socialized medicine and realize man has caused "global warming".I will do all I can to get a socialist/liberal win next year, but when I wake up,the day after election day,to find parliament has a conservative majority, amidst my disappointment and anguish will be the acknowledgment--"it could have been worse.I could be waking in America after a republican victory"!!-

Thank you for your insight. I have a sister who is living in Britain (she married an Englishman a few years ago). And I do recognize the difference between your conservatives there and our conservatives here.
What's puzzling to me is that we used to have progressive Republicans in our Northeastern United States. These Republicans were not very different from the conservatives found in Europe...that is to say: fiscally conservative, but realistic about issues like climate change, gay rights, and even reproductive rights. People like Bill Weld from Massachusetts and Alfonse D'Amato from New York. (Even a pre-campaign 2008 Rudy Giuliani, in many ways before he completely cashed in his marbles and became a member of the nutball chorus....). Arlen Specter, progressive as he may have been in some areas, was to their right...
Now, with the exception of Sens. Olympia Snow and Susan Collins of Maine ...and Rep Joseph Cao (of Loiusiana...of all places!), there are NO progressive Republicans in the US....AT ALL! ...As my avatar indicates, they truly HAVE gone off the rails here, particularly in the south, where the GOP is all but unhinged! This could only benefit the Democrats in the long run, but I worry about the life and helath of our President (....and of our country, truthfully).
So yes, do take comfort, Mik. Your conservatives are only slightly to the right of our Democrats....which is better than over the cliff into nutball land, like they are here....

Sarah Palin is doing well with her Book and has stayed in the News long after I thought she would be gone. You can't take that away from her even if you don't like her. However she seems to be garnering attention for the wrong reasons. She is more of a Tabloid fasination and a Comedy punchline.I don't see her winning over any new potential voters. The people who admire her are the same ones who took to her last year.I just don't see anyones minds being changed one way or the other. If shes out to make alot of money she is doing good.If she has political goals in mind, she has alot of work to do.

You have to give Conan credit. he pointed out tht one of Palins complaints was the GOP didn't allow her to give a concession speech. And Conan's response to tht was given her current philosophy and agenda she should have ample chances in the future to do that.
